Title: What if you have to do both?
Post by: TrojanMan on November 17, 2013, 06:26:22 PM
If you have to go number 1&2 at the same time is it socially acceptable for guys to just sit? Or do they stand then sit?.. It makes me self conscious what do you guys do?

I'm sure they just sit for both, it just makes more sense.

I know of at least two cis guys who sit all the time too. So yeah. *shrug*

Most people don't seem to pay any attention.

I sit down whether it's #1 or #2.

Besides, IMHO I don't think it's anyone's business how one chooses to take care of their waste business.

most everyone I know sits.  standing is for on the go business,  in my opinion.

If I have to do both I sit - saves time. If I have to pee then I always stand because its actually really difficult to pee sitting down for me (post surgery)

On that note, no one cares. For real.

Having been one who used to stand, I used to sit for both.  Most other guys do too.

Hopes that helps!

Most guys who have to do both at the same time just sit to do both. It's quicker and easier.

My hubby - who is cis - always uses the stalls when out in public, even for a no. 1, because he doesn't like whipping it out in front of strangers. Can't say I blame him. He'll stand in the stall if it's just a no. 1, but he'll sit if he suspects he needs to do both. At home, he sits pretty much all the time, even for just a no. 1.

Men generally seem to be allergic to each other in public toilets so nobody's going to care what you're doing or what position you're in whilst you do it. It would be a major faux pas if anyone were to question you on your toilet habits. The goal of men's toilets is to get in, get your business done and get out as soon as possible.

BTW, back when I was a teenager and I was all militant about standing to use the toilet, I used to do no. 2s from a standing position. True story. Don't try this at home, kids!  ;D

I'm not very reliable at an STP so I do both sitting. No one cares. Men don't even look or pay attention. They only look enough so they don't run into people. It's a far cry from the women's room.

Jay, I am with you, haven't mastered the STP yet so I use a stall in the men's all the time.  No one pays any attention to what anyone else is doing.  Guys at the urinal look straight ahead when peeing and use every other one if it is possible.  I feel completely confident in the men's.

If you don't mind a small deposit from someone who's spent too long in the men's room,  Sit for both together, your choice if no1 only but wouldn't recommend sitting at a urinal.

On that note, if your using the urinals, make sure you pass the test, nothing worse than someone breaking the unspoken rules and they will always remain unspoken as that's strictly forbidden too.   Actually the urinal selection rules are more important than the no talking rule as minimal essential communication is permitted between relatives if they have to use the public facilities simultaneously (i.e. "I'll wait outside" if they are taking longer than you and non verbal communication is not possible), however the selection rules still stand with only slight modification and allowances in the most difficult situations.

To illustrate why you should sit to do both, here's a story:

I was babysitting my younger brothers years back,  and one of them went to the bathroom. Apparently he had to do both, but stood to pee first. While peeing he ended up accidently crapping at the same time, making a big mess on the floor. It was like a diarrhea crap. Who had to clean it up? Me of course.  :)

You have to relax some muscles to go pee, so if you have to crap really bad, you might end up having an accident while you're pissing.

True! This is why I was asking

Sit. My husband does, and I do. Saves time, and frankly it's likely to get more attention if you use a urinal and then go to a stall. Not that anyone really cares in bathrooms, but it'll probably make you feel like you're garnering less attention. And really, why make public restrooms and more awkward?

I remember the fear of breaking the 'no speaking in men's washroom' rule. I was at a Taekwon-do competition and heard a guy running around and it was a guy from my school trying to clean up a bloody nose. Washing my hands I actually had to think about whether to offer help just because of that rule! Haha!

Guys kinda enter their own bubble in the bathroom where no one else exists. They're not thinking about what the guy in the stall is doing, they're just focusing on their own needs so they can finish up and get out. But yeah, sitting down for both is fine. It cuts down on time!

I sit unless its inhumane to do so ie: filthy conditions. Then I just find a disability washroom and sit in there.

Its acceptable, don't be self conscious about it.
Though let me add, and I seem to be the only one, I have noticed at least one guy who stood to pee then turned around and sat for #2 right after.

Okay, just to illustrate something...

Back when I was working at Walmart, and still in denial about being trans, I actually forced myself to do EVERYTHING sitting for an entire month straight because my dysphoric brain felt like it.

Nobody cared. Nobody said a word to me. And for God's sake, I was wearing pink panties, which very well might have been visible around my ankles if anyone cared to look. Nobody did. Not so much as a word about either thing, even though it was in the store's very-public bathrooms.

If anyone in a men's restroom sees you sitting, they just automatically assume that you're taking a crap and leave you alone. That's it. They won't even think twice. They won't look, they won't think, they'll just migate to their own stall and pretend that you don't exist. That is how little guys care about their other gendermates' bathroom habits.

(Side note: honestly, if you ask me, anyone who refuses to pee while sitting down, even when they're doing #2 anyway, has some serious insecurity problems. The first time I heard that there really were some guys who did this, I was like "OMG, are you guys stupid? Wow...")

This. I would think it very odd for a guy to stand and pee and then go sit down to crap. Still, no one is going to pay attention either way. It's generally taboo to pay attention to strangers in a restroom. Guys who are pay attention to others or are sociable with strangers in restrooms make other guys uncomfortable. I think it's homophobia. I'm actually one of those guys who is weirded out by anyone even being friendly with me in a restroom and I'm gay so maybe I'm not typical. *shrug*
