Title: My Dad
Post by: TheLance on November 19, 2013, 12:29:31 AM
I'm not sure where to put this, I just have to announce it.

My Dad isn't my biological father, he came into my life when I was 3 and has been there ever since. He's an amazing father figure, and he's always supported me in what ever I did. When I was coming out as transgender, he never stopped supporting me. But of course, he hadn't quite wrapped his head around it. Then, he had mentioned me in something on facebook by saying 'my transitioning son'. I got so happy I nearly came out of my skin. This man is my idol, he's who I have always wanted to be just like. And he accepts me for who I am and embraces me to the fullest. We talked about it a bit and he said I've always been his son. I'm just so happy that the person I look up to the most loves me for who I am.

Congrats. My step-father (who married my mother 28 years ago with I was 15) has been extremely supportive of my transitioning. He's been more a father to me in other areas as well than my biological father. My parents separated 3 times before divorcing when I was 12. Even though I kept in communication with my biological father and visited him several times a year (we lived 800 miles apart), he never accepted my choices in life. (I was a feminine child and he thought I should had joined the military.) Needless to say he is the ONLY family member not supporting my decision to transition. He thought I should go back into the closet, even though he admits that I was born this way.

My step-father has gone out of his way to support my transitioning and he's been simply amazing. All while suffering with Parkinson's that's kept at bay with medication, but he has his bad days.

Thank you Cindy, Gabrielle. I am very lucky, and so happy to be so blessed. He's an awesome dad.

Sydney, I'll never have anything to do with my biological father, so I don't really care what he thinks. But in your case, it sounds like you're lucky like I am :) That's fantastic about your step father and the rest of your family. My family is very supportive as well. I tend to keep out negative people and spend time with those that support me.
