Title: What's Your Trade or Talent?
Post by: Valerie on November 19, 2013, 07:27:32 PM
Mods, feel free to move this if there's already a similar topic.  I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a thread where we outline what we do best professionally that might be a resource if others needs advice, information, etc.  Perhaps let's try to stick to a general format, and folks who need guidance on a particular topic can contact you via PM.

I suggest including the following: 1) Trade & years of experience; 2) primary job function; 3) technology, software, etc, that you're accustomed to working with; 4) any particular knowledge set that you might be able to give advice about.

I would caution against offering legal or medical advice--if you can give general advice, be sure to note it thus & offer a disclaimer.  Also, please remember that this is the internet, and if you provide any information that leads others to guess your location or other personal information, you do so at your own risk--this is general info only & I personally see no reason to reveal your company's name or city, etc.  Do not reveal any information, statistics, etc, that your company considers or might consider confidential & proprietary or that might otherwise go against company policy, or Local, State or Federal law.

I'll start, and we'll see if it's worth sticking with? I'll put it in the next post so as not to have all this preface in front of it.... Ya' like?   ~V.

1) Hospice  -- nearly  6.5 years

2) I work in the Admissions office as part a Team that processes all new referrals that come into our agency up until the point that they are either admitted to our services or the referral is closed.

3) Standard office equipment; 4 years experience using Cerner as an electronic patient database--this is limited to my function in the company so there's a ton of Cerner I'm not familiar with.

4) I can advise on: hospice philosophy & services; when to call hospice; general criteria for admission; barriers to hospice admission; general admission procedures; use of the Medicare hospice benefit & some limitations; information on hospice care at home vs at a facility or hospice care center; conflicts or agreements of some treatments with hospice care...  I'm probably missing some stuff--been doing it so long that I forget how much I've learned.

You are welcome to PM me if you would like information or guidance.

DISCLAIMER:  I am not a nurse or physician, or in any way clinically trained or certified.  I can advise you in general terms, but hospices vary by location & whether they are for-profit, not-for-profit, or nonprofit.

I'm a chemist who went back for molecular toxicology.  I review or generate data for products and chemistries for environmental fate, effects, toxicity, endocrine disruption, persistence, bioconcentration, sustainability attributes and related aspects.  I work with product developers, manufacturing engineers and regulatory (both inside my company and with governments worldwide).  Then, I work with teams of individuals on new technologies – things that significantly change the way we live.

Training:  5 years undergrad, 9 years post grad, 17 years working.  Technology: the company I work for makes a lot of products representing some 38 different technologies.  I know most of them.  I'm not an MD so I really can't talk much about what I know that would pertain to the transgendered community.  Occasionally I comment on HRT, some drug interaction aspects and I'm reasonably good at intersexed conditions.

I like to give hugs; both here and in my real world existence.  A good hug is a wonderful thing.

Hugs,

Jen

Luthier/Guitar Tech/Musician

Started playing guitar 1977/ tore my first guitar apart 1985/ professional tech 1993-present/ semi-pro musician since college

Technology- various power tools, rasps, files, glues and clamps

Advice- take your ADD meds, get your gender issues in order and don't be a screwup in college. Oops...  Probably could have/should have been a doctor or attorney.  Anyway, I'm an expert on vintage guitars and basses, esp. Fenders and have something of a Stratocaster collection going now.
