My day is in less than 10 day and I am in horrible panic. Honestly, I did not research complications enough. And now I read and read and there are LOTS of stories from many people (and I am sure many times more stories that have been untold) about dreaded fistula. It looks like one of the most terrible things that can possibly happen to you. Once you get it, you pretty much can't get rid of it, lose your vagina and spend the rest of your life on pain killers and with a poop bag.
I have no insurance. And no chance of getting it anytime soon, because I am self-employed and can't afford it with the loan I took to afford SRS, my taxes and car payments. And insurance here in NY is expensive. So, should ANY complication occur, I am in deep s&%t. I don't even want to think about it.
I am a lesbian woman and I am NOT planning on having any type of penetrative sex ever in my life.
I can feel the dilation would be an issue. It's just not something that I can envision myself doing for the rest of my life.
I know "cosmetic" option is there. Has anyone had it? Does it provide the sensitivity in newly created labia and clitoris?
Please, I am in panic and ANY opinion/advice/knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Yes it isn't uncommon, I know Brassard will do a none vagina SRS with the rest of the wheels and tackle in place. I don't think it can be easily revised later if you do decide on a vagina. Have a talk to your surgeon!

All of the complications are possibilities but then again surgery and medicine in general is never perfected because of how the human body is. I was paranoid about a fistula and instead I became a bleeder. ->-bleeped-<- happens. Most surgeons can fix minor colon perforations during surgery but this depends on a good colon (no prior eating disorders).
Yes there is the same level of relative sensitivity in the clit and labia with "cosmetic" reassignment as with vaginoplasty. There is also the same risk of temporary to permanent numbness because of nerve bundle damage. That's where trust in the surgeon of choice comes in play.

That's good to know... been thinking about that option myself...
I know someone who wishes she had (and do know from personal experience that Brassard offers it as an option, including full potential sexual sensitivity and completely normal aesthetics, although I went with the standard method).
The odds of fistula apparently vary by surgeon, but are usually very very low. Also, fistula repair is something that quite a few US doctors specialize in - for cis women, that is - so the outcome is not necessarily *quite* as bad as all that. Many women get it fully repaired and go on to live normal lives.
Well, Dr. McGinn doesn't do it. Because they feel that it is important for sexuality. Which I think it totally up for me to decide! Should have thought about it earlier, but the idea that this is possible didn't even cross my mind. Oh well, I arranged to have only couple inches of depth, this should reduce the risk of complications.
It's done! Had SRS today. I heard there were no complications, but I really have no idea how it went since Dr. didn't stay there to wait for me to wake up... which I found pretty strange. I don't have any pain at all, just some discomfort.
Don't worry! My doc is one of the best and he visited only that night or the next morning, I forget which... they have lots to do, and can't really add anything to the conversation at that point the nurses don't already know. Had there been problems, I think you would have heard about them by now though, so just relax and hit that morphine button! :laugh:
