That some people just simply don't belong behind a register and no amount of help or training will cure that.

This is how I feel about myself behind the wheel.

I learned that calling in a fake bomb threat is considered a prank here. That's odd. I always thought mischief involved being more creative and doing something a little more interesting. (Someone did that at a high school here a couple days ago.)
I also learned that a "suspicious package" is enough to warrant evacuating a couple buildings and cordon off a parking lot, rerouting the bus, and having a bunch of fire fighters and police officers come. I have no idea what made the package suspicious. (I was minding my own business at university today when...)
I also learned that there are, in fact, other queer metalheads, many people who support queer metalheads, and a few metal musicians who are gay. That helps me feel a bit better about my not straight sexuality.

I learned that I'm very susceptible to olfactory suggestions.

I tried a mango scented scrub for the first time and later forgot all about it. When I went to the grocery store I was like, "omg I should get mangos! I loooove mangos!"

As soon as I got home and started munching on my mango it occurred to me that I've been covered in that scent all day. No wonder!

I learned that you really can't buy a salwar kameez in a set size, it's all either one size fits all, or it comes "unstitched" where you need to sew it together yourself for your own size.

I just thought that was surprising, like, you buy clothes and then have to sew it yourself?  ???

(For those who don't know, kameez are the big long length shirts many Indian Sub-continent women wear, a dupatta is the scarf, and chunidar are the tight leggings with the gathered bottoms or salwar are the looser sort of pants.)

That encompasses Regulation A (which mimics '33 act's section B registration requirements, but its a more limited disclosure document) and Regulation D which encompasses Rules 504, 505, and the Sec 4(2) safe harbors.

Today I learned that the word "preternatural" comes from "praeter naturalis", which means "outside of nature". It is a term from the 13th century referring to phenomena which were neither everyday natural occurrences nor miracles from God. These phenomena were things such as abnormal meteorological events or unusual births, and the cause could be considered either celestial (caused by heavenly bodies such as the moon), demonic, or unknown. Later philosophers and theologians argued that you just couldn't know, but St. Aquinas argued that they were definitely demonic and his argument held the most weight, and this is part of how magic became linked with the demonic in the eyes of the church for centuries to come.

I thought that was very interesting! :D

I learned that following the second World War, Poland effectively moved northwest. Southeastern Poland remained annexed by the Soviet Union, becoming Ukrainian territory. Eastern Prussia was permanently wiped from the map (its inhabitants deported to East Germany), the northern part of which becoming an enclave of Russia (Kalingrad Oblast), with the remainder awarded to Poland.

Yeah, it's just...it makes me terribly sad for them.

And terribly sad for my nachos and salsa because after googling the image I no longer find them appetizing.

Same thing happened to me when I first found out about it. I was eating something, can't remember what it was, while watching this video of this guy who had to have his leg amputated because of the damage krokodil did to his body. It was absolutely disgusting and I didn't feel hungry anymore.

I learned that some of the official viewpoints on diagnosing transsexualism recommend that a patient not receive surgeries until they are thriving in their new gender role.

I kind of have to bring that into question, though. I mean, for example, it's very difficult to live life fully as a man with clearly visible breasts. That's going to cause some discomfort and restrict a lot of activities. Unless one wants to be outed or open about being trans...

Today I learned that wild parsnips can cause burns on your skin. We'd been picking blackberries for a couple of days, and I wore long sleeves but my shirt would get caught on thorns and ride up sometimes when I was climbing from one place to another. It took some googling to find plants that make the kind of non-itchy marks I had on my torso, but the images of wild parsnip matched the stuff that was mixed in with the brambles. Of course, my kid knew all about it when I mentioned it, but I didn't think to ask her first.

She wants to cook and eat the roots, but I think I'm going to just put on some gloves and do my best to remove them from the walking path.

I also learned that if you keep millipedes and dirt in a gallon tapjar, you have probably ended that jar's life as a tea dispenser.

I'm like this and it's not that bad. I make lots of appointments and plans that I write down and talk about so I have more impetus to follow them, and for smaller errands I set out missions that I decide on a day or two before. Without a doubt I can relate to this. Every Summer I so wish for Autumn, or Winter, I live by the coast so it's not so bad on hot days walking right by the shore, with the wind, but I really don't like the heat. But thankfully (hopefully) we're past the hottest of Summer now.

One thing I've learned today is more about spiders, there are a lot of spiders in the house I live in, especially my bedroom - it kind of deters me from dusting because I don't really want to disturb them...I'm not sure what the right thing is in regards to this, because then the dusting will never get done! I think I'll just leave them, will make me feel less guilty about it, but anyway I have been reading about spiders today and it is very interesting! I have learnt that spiders vibrate webs to make a kind of music! It's very interesting looking at the different species of spiders...

I feel really guilty about upsetting spiders, I disturbed one in the bathroom today, I could see it move quickly into a crack into the wall near the door. My heart drops every time, I hate upsetting spiders, any insect in fact, my mind cannot get around the fact that some actually kill, swat them - what's the actual point of this? Just a complete waste of life, for what good reason!? Just put it in a glass and then outside if it's bothering you!

I'm guessing that your daughter prefers the smaller kinds :P (like I do), coming across a spider approaching the size of my hand is not something I pleasantly anticipate (thankfully it hasn't ocurred very often). Though thankfully they're still pretty timid even at that size.

I learned today that ships can be built to mammoth proportions, I saw a ship on the horizon today probably the biggest I've ever seen, in a typical day one can see many cargo ships to and from the Thames Estuary, but this ship was particulary impressive, usually the ships I see are white, but this was all black (and massive).

We live in Oregon, and the largest spider we ever caught here was an argiope aurantia (I had to look that up; my name for it was "yellow zigzag spider") that we found in a local park after a homeowner did that jar thing to get it out of their own yard. The spiders we usually catch are a couple inches across at the very most, legs included. The main way they get creepy is quantity. We now have a standing rule that egg sacs are to be left outside the house.

Today I learned that my cat's desire to destroy the neighbor cats has almost completely overridden his typical fear of the world outside the house. Can't leave the door open when it's hot anymore.

Wow, sorry about this I've just seen this! I looked up argiope aurantia just now, looks incredible! Such a wonder all of the different species, the colours, sizes...I think I'm going to count how many spiders are in my bedroom soon, there are so many! I've left a fig roll case on the floor by the bin and a small spider has actually made it it's home! It's moving about now in fact, it can hardly be seen it's so small...but the dilemma is, what do I now do with the wrapper which I would've put in the bin?! I think I'll leave it, I'd rather not disturb it.

Here's a useful site for finding more about spiders, http://www.findaspider.org.au/find/species.htm (http://www.findaspider.org.au/find/species.htm), though it's an Australian site, so perhaps it's more Aus-oriented. Definitely would think the varieties, types would vary with the continent though perhaps it covers all the species...

Besides trying to figure out the species of these really tiny spiders, today I have learnt just how unpredictable things can be at times. For one thing it's been really hot and sunny today, just as much as any Summer's day, when I expected it to be much colder, which I much prefer. I've also learnt that I really need to clean my camera lens.
