Title: Hey everyone
Post by: Fae on July 04, 2007, 12:25:29 AM
Hello. I suppose as the first post on this board I should introduce myself?  My name is Fae and I am in my early 20's, and I'm a MTF transgendered individual (I think transexual carries too negative a stereotype, so I don't identify that way) .  I'm attending a fairly liberal college and plan to transition there while I earn my B.A. over the next few years.

I've been on HRT for 4 months, and finally decided to reach out and talk to my fellow sisters (whom I'm hoping to get some support from).  All my friends know and I am out to my immediate family too, although my mom is becoming increasingly unsupportive of my transition :(

So...I guess I'm here to have a place to share my thoughts and experiences with other's like me.  So...Hi!

Fae

Hi Fae, it's nice to meet you.

Just remember that there are plenty of people here , and on #chat (me included) who can be here for you if you need them, whether you need support or just feel like bitching about the world for no good reason :).

I hope you enjoy your stay,

Megan

Hi Fae,

    Nice to meet you.
It's good to see you're st a place where you understand yourself. When I came here, I didn't know what I was. I had just figured out I'm transgendered. I learned a lot from people here through casual conversations and more intense conversations.
It is a good idea to look over the rules. They make sense and they are there to make your time here comfortable and supportive.

You have just joined a community that will be here when you need us even after you get out of college.

Be well,

Rebecca

Hi Fae, Nice to have you on here. I'm about two and a half times your age and yet you are already way ahead of me (it was not so easy to transition when I was in my twenties, so I dismissed the possibility for much too long).
Don't worry about what tag you use to describe yourself - MTF transgendered individual is fine as is any other description as long as you're comfortable with it, it's the person not the name that's important.
Looking forward to hearing  more from you in the future.
Best wishes, Louise

You seem to be already grounded and know where your heading in life.
I wish I was as grounded as that now!

Your parents, that's a though one, but early on in transition, its common,
when she will see that you are not a "male in a dress", that you
living happy, there's a good chance she'll turn around.

In the meanwhile, all your real world friends, which you seem to have many (lucky you),
and us (as much as we can from the end of a keyboard), will provide the support you need.

Your odyssey is just starting. Its going to be a wonderful ride.

Just thought I ought to add that I wasn't meaning to imply that it is any way easy to transition even in these days. It's the hardest thing for anyone of any age to do. Back then it was almost unheard of and there was little or no support or understanding to be had.
Good luck, best wishes from Louise

Hi Fae,

Welcome to Susan's. You couldn't have found a better place to reach out and talk with others, as you will soon find out. At times, we can be very talkitive, and you will get a world of good information from anyone of us. Give your mom some time, and she will eventually come around and will accept you. Like  Keira said, early in transition, its common, when she will see that you are not a "male in a dress", that you are living happy, and there's a good chance she'll turn around.

Hmm, I hear the words of wisdom and advice, and I should listen. My mom threatens me  :icon_ashamed:, so she's never seen me physically as a woman but only in pictures. Things are going to start changing.  :icon_biggrin:

Hi Fae,
First, welcome to Susan's. What a great community you've joined. Take a look around and see what the site has to offer. From forums, to information to chat, I think you'll find a great community here. Congratulations on recongizing what will make you happy in your early 20's. College can be an extremely trying time and it sounds like you are adjusting quite well. See you around  :) Meghan

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the warm welcome :D

And yeah Keira, I don't know if mom will ever see me as anything but a "man in a dress" because she doesn't think what I'm doing is right.  I think it has to do with her personal religious beliefs (which I respect) and probably won't change.  Our relationship right now is hanging by a thread, so I'm not holding my breathe...

And unfortunately louise, I don't think gender transition as a whole will get any better given the current administration in this country...it's pretty sad, but I'm doing the best I can and I'm really grateful that all my friends at school have been accepting of the new me.

It is important that we find our own way despite short sighted and cruel politicians. Only by being ourselves will we overcome the flat world attitudes.

I couldn't agree more Rebecca, one reason I don't trust the government all that much.  It's not up to the politicians to decide my fate, that's my job.  The more we speak out and educate others, the better the world will be.  Maybe not in my lifetime, but...someday.  :D

If it doesn't happen in your lifetime, I'm holding you responsible.   :D (just kidding. Please don't hit me)

Greetings, Fae!

Nice to have you aboard.  Can't wait to hear how it all works out while you are going to college.  Others here have had similar experiences, so you are truly among friends.

Again, welcome!
