Title: First Moment of Confirmation From a Stranger!
Post by: svaso on December 14, 2013, 08:25:27 PM
I just want to share a great moment I had today.  What happened just boosted my confidence level so much that I had to share.  I stopped by the salon to have some restyling of a wig I purchased through my stylist(still waiting for my own hair to grow out).  I wanted it to look good as I was attending my second meeting with a local transgender social group in my city.  This was my first time attending as my true self so I wanted to look good.  Anyhow, I never dressed in public before, but I decided to wear my new wig out as I would attend the meeting right after I left there.  I was already dressed(jeans, top, jewelry and make up) so as I left the stylist wearing my wig and I felt pretty good.

I walked out to my car and sat in it for a bit, checking my makeup in the mirror and primped my hair.  I was there a few minutes until I noticed a man was sitting in the car next to me looking at me(creepy).  I soon enough, drove off to my meeting.

My stylist texted me shortly after:
'BTW you are pulling your look together very well. When you left my client waiting in the car came in & laughingly said..."I don't know why you ladies take so long to leave after you get in the car." He was obviously referring to you! I was thrilled & agreed with him that we are all like that! He had no idea you were Trans & of course I never enlightened him. I loved it, his remarks made my day! :)'

then she wrote:
'I loved it too, it means makeup, cloths hair & overall look is on the right track. Life is good! I may need you to be my consultant for the others!'

I am so boosted with self confidence right now, I decided to go to the grocery store after my meeting.  This was my first time in a store as myself.  After I checked out at the store, I got my first 'Thank you, ma'am' ever!!

Do you recall your first time receiving confirmation from a stranger?

Congrats! I still remember the first time a stranger referred me as female and that's when I knew it was time. Those moments are special :)

Recently, at work which I have yet to think about coming out, an odd thing happened.  I dress very male at work, as I had for my last 14 years there.  A 'higher up' from our corporate office was visiting our branch.  Out of the blue he calls me over to let me know that the senate voted and passed a ban of discrimination against transgender workers.  He never mentioned it was for 'gay and transgender workers.  Strangely, I thought it was odd that he called me over specifically.  I just responded that it was great news.  I felt a level of respect with that.  I suppose the HRT is working!

I was in a restaurant, the kind where you place your order at the counter, then you go down the counter and tell them what extras to add to your food, you pay and then find a table. The guy that took my order said thank you mam and it took me a few seconds to realize that he was talking to ME   :P

My first official mam and I almost missed it.

I don't know if this counts, but I was down town shopping .This was long before I began transitioning . I was going up the escalator  and forgot about something and got off the escalator and two girls yelled at me "watch it girl". I was in girl mode though.
