Title: How long til you real your peak?
Post by: cryan91 on December 22, 2013, 02:15:14 PM
Hi everyone...I've got a question for you! So, it normally takes 4-6 years to complete puberty...should a transperson expect for that same time duration to apply to their second, hrt-induced puberty? As I hit my 3 year mark today, I'm trying to get an idea as to how much more change I should anticipate. Thanks! Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday! xo :)

What I've learned/heard is that most effects will happen during the first 3-4 years and after that time the changes will slow down.

I think puberty runs from around age 12 to 22.

I'm in my sixth year of HRT and there have been significant changes in the past year.

Yeah, I think it depends on how someone defines "puberty" - it's often considered to begin at the breast bud stage and end at menarche for cis girls, but in reality their bodies continue changing for up to several years thereafter. I certainly knew lots of girls who weren't totally finished with pubertal changes until college age, making the total duration more like ~10 years.

Anyway, I'm coming up on four years and still seeing changes. :) Not as dramatic as in the first year, maybe, but definitely progressing.

What kind of changes are you seeing at 3-6 years?

Just curious what I have yet to look forward to :)

Large boobs and butt.  Loss of former abdominal fat.  Shrinkage of testicles and penis. (I think I could pass in a women's locker room.  Many women have more "hangy-down" stuff than I have.).  Very smooth skin. Loss of upper body strength, despite regular visits to the gym.

Subcutaneous fat on legs make them smooth, despite significant leg muscles.  Little odor from armpits, but when I sweat my crotch has a distinctive feminine odor to it.

Face is round and soft, cheekbones seem more prominent since there is a layer of muscle and fat over them.  I look "apple cheeked", while that area was formerly almost sunken.

It takes years for the body to adapt and start working well on estrogen, with very little testosterone.

Most important, is a nearly complete loss of gender dysphoria.  Now I can't even remember why it was such a big deal.  It's like:  "I used to be male and now I'm more like a female. No big deal".
