Title: Almost 2014: How'd you do in 2013?
Post by: DriftingCrow on December 27, 2013, 07:55:49 PM
We might remember our New Year's Resolutions from last year or not: https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,132444.0.html

Since the year's almost over, how'd everyone do in keeping their resolutions?

And, in general, how was the year for you? Good, bad, boring? What's your hopes and dreams for next year?

*     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *      *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *      *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *
From the thread, here were my resolutions and how I did:
Go places by myself --> yep, I've kept this. I go lots of places alone now.
get a physical --> yes I did, my first physical in like 8 years or so.
see a gender therapist --> nope, didn't do this but that's okay, I am not in any rush.
work on bulking up arms/shoulder --> yes I did, I've done lots of weight lifting and other exercise in 2013. I'll be starting P90X3 on January 6 with some other people I know
work on better posture --> I forgot about this one, but I think my posture has improved. I think it comes along with getting more muscular.
eat more protein --> yes, I did. I've been eating tons of yogurt (even started making my own), chicken, beans/rice, eggs, . . . . list goes on.
study Portuguese  --> not really, kinda did it. I studied some but I am really not that into Portuguese. So, I don't care that I didn't fully keep this one.

Overall, 2013 was a great year for me. Almost done with school, working, sleeping well, life is great and I expect 2014 to be the same. I'll be graduating in May and taking the bar in two states in July, then hopefully one for a Native tribe shortly after my results come out. I think I have a job lined up for after graduation, and then I'll get the chance to save up to move into a decent apartment somewhere.

My 2014 resolutions:
1) continue exercising and to do Rugged Maniac again (and hopefully have a better time but just as much fun)
2) continue studying Portuguese or just switch to Punjabi
3) learn to make Kombucha
4) make my first batch of kimchi
5) to be happy, full of love, carefree, and generous (this will be a work in progress over my lifetime)

2013:
Get on HRT
Get off lexapro, valium, clonopin
Come out to the world
Survive

2014:
Get back into shape
Walk 20+ miles every week
Plastic surgery
Orchi

Failure is not an option.

Well, I haven't quit smoking yet, but I have cut down. I did gain some of the weight I wanted to though.  I was crazy at the coast in that topic.

I usually don't make New Year's Resolutions because I never follow them.  However, since I'm supposed to be graduating next year, I feel that I should try to make some.

1. Get my license FAILED

2. Get a job  FAILED

3.  Start the process of getting a dental implant FAILED

4. Get a bank account FAILED

5. See my top surgery fund increase Succeded, but not by much

6. See my therapist more often FAILED

A lot of this still should happen as a result of goal 2.

Wow....I suck lol, but there is a round 2 so lets try this again!  My goals for 2014 are:

1. Get a license

2. Get a job

3. Get a bank account

4. Raise at least half the funds needed for top surgery

5. Lose at least 20 pounds

6.  Get a top surgery consultation

7. Come out to my family

8. Meet Shy

Knowing me, I probably won't accomplish any of those goals, but I'm going to try and really make an effort this time.

I didn't make any resolutions. I don't really keep them. I did how carry over personal goals that will continue onwards throughout my existence.

1. Stay active as best I can
2. If I start to "tip" find a way to reach out or hold on
3. Show my love and appreciation for everything and everyone (this has increased over the years)
4. Do my best to stay mental balanced.

I think that's it for that.

How was the year? Like I'd imagine the scariest rollercoaster may be. Early in the year the usual melancholy but not as heavy. Shift into June and I had carried with me balance and ran into alot of cool opportunities. August - October a..very dark, tipping point where I felt a lot of strong emotions compounded at once. I really don't know how I made it beyond that time. About mid- November till now pretty dark. reflective, with some fun events tossed in there.

What does 2014 hold? I don't know it doesn't exist to me yet :P

Keep saving for top surgery and start lifting weights after I fully heal from my hysto.

Wow, I set the bar low for myself...and still failed, LOL.

I guess I haven't completely failed, I will have surgery money all the way saved or right at almost saved this time next year. Didn't hit the weights, even bought a weight bench...it makes a great coat rack in the middle bedroom, haha.

My 2014 Goals:

1. Get the rest of the money for surgery/book surgery.
2. Do well in all of my classes.
3. Get a part time job while school is in/work full time during the Summer.
4. Kinda out of my control, but I go in for kidney, brain, and spine scans Fall of 2014. Hope no more surgeries for that anytime soon.
5. After I have top surgery money together start saving for down payment on a house. Tired of renting.
6. Stop being lazy and go get my gender marker on my license changed. After surgery get Birth Certificate changed.
7. Last but not least start working out again. I'm not looking to be muscular or anything. Just healthy and thinner.

Ok, seven things for the new year. Seven should be lucky, right?  :P

Last year I really only had one, which was to find the courage to talk to my parents and grandma about my name and pronouns. I succeeded.

This year:

1. Save the cash and have top surgery by the end of the year.
2. Finish off my thesis (well, I kind of have to, but yeah lol)
3. Be able to ride my bike downtown like I used to.
4. See Keaira again in spite of top surgery costs. :(

Definitely these two. coming to visit can wait.
2013 Goals:
1. Get my licence changed.  *Failed* because of BMV Douchebagery. Even though Deed Poll is a valid and legal name change from where I am from, the Indiana BMV Nazis wont accept anything less than a Birth Certificate.
2. Go stealth *Accomplished* Somewhat.
3. Get Laser hair removal done on my face. *Failed*

Goals for 2014:

Obtain new Birth Certificate
Laser Hair Removal
Other goals pending circumstance and future events.

I don't do the resolutions thing. I never stick to those anyway. I will just do a "year in review". (In no particular order, even though it is numbered. Also, I will only focus on good things.)

1. Got all of that crazy medical crap straightened out.
2. Was reunited with a wonderful batch of pals. (This one is pretty easy to read between the lines so, no explanation needed there.)
3. Performed my first live Noise show ever and it was mostly a success, other than some slight equipment trouble, but nothing serious.
4. Discovered my love for writing fanfiction which has led to creation of an original series.
5. Kept up on the exercise and I am continuing to lose weight.

Here are my 2014 resolutions:

1) daily activity--no excuses (included in here is GET BACK ON THE BIKE!!)
2) be more assertive when discussions get sticky
3) clear the facial hair
4) go somewhere new this summer
5) develop restraint when eating buffet-style meals (In my new job, I'm constantly fed unhealthy buffet meals. I need to make better choices or I'll inflate like a balloon).

2013 - On the Transgender side, nothing done. Still stealth, still working for the same company for 15 years. Lost some weight, gained some weight. Now dieting again need to lose another 15kgs (7kgs lost already). Got a posh party to go to just after New Years so hoping to get a new outfit today.

2014 - Planning to have voice surgery at Yeson in April. Then that will be the final medical procedure since I've had everything else done. Get back down to my ideal weight, and just try to remain healthy and get fitter and most importantly to remain as happy and content as I am now.

Happy New Year to all my brothers and sisters here at Susans !!!!!!

I'm no good at making or keeping resolutions. I made none for 2013. Probably just as well since at the start of 2013 I had zero inkling that I would:

Seriously, none of that was on the radar. Even though I was miserable and really wishing I could be a woman, I was so deeply mired in my gender identity denial the thought of gender transition was laughable to me. But when things exploded early February there was no holding me back. So yeah... WHAT A YEAR! And all without a single resolution. I guess when I set my mind to something I just do it.

Question is, should I set some resolutions for 2014? I'll keep it short and "simple"...

Easy, right? Happy new year, everyone - and may you achieve your plans and resolutions and hopes!  ;D

Well, I had no inkling that I'd have started this transition process by the end of 2013. I was still dreaming about all this just this time last year.  Instead, I have:

Lost 12kgs
Come out (a bit)
Started therapy
Had my blood test to start HRT
started putting a wardrobe together
Started the annihilation of my beard
Taken my first steps out in public

Next year I'm going to:

Grow my hair out
Lose another 7kg
Speak to people when I go out (ie find a workable female voice)
Do some boobing :D

Good luck everyone with those resolutions and a super happy new year!

Considering I didn't make any resolutions, I think I did pretty well. :D

But even without a resolution, I managed to quit smoking after five years and transition-wise I had top surgery and I'm close to getting my gender marker changed in all the legal documents. ;)
