Kia Ora,
My children (all young adults now in their twenties) still call me dad and I'm quite happy with that title because it's true, I 'fathered' them...
However they have all accepted my transition and are also very supportive of their 'female' dad....Out in public they will just use my female name, but in private and when talking to friends (who know) they refer to me as 'dad'...
So for those of you M2F & F2M who have transitioned and have children, how do they address you ?
And are you comfortable with it ?
And for those who are about to transition how comfortable will you be if your children refer to you by your old parent gender title ?
Metta Zenda :)
My son still addresses me as dad. However, at school he introduces me as his aunt. He got tired of having to explain it to the other kids. I told him he can call me whatever he wants, so I don't care either way. Plus, it is kind of fun to see the confusion on people's faces when he calls me dad. They can't figure it out!
sometimes by name, sometimes mom,
It beats losing them.

Kia Ora Brooke,
My oldest son (when he was younger) did the same, to stop any awkward questions he would just say I was his aunt...It saves a lot of awkward moments and the barrage of probing questions...

Kia Ora LK,
I guess psychologically they take comfort when still being able to think of me as their 'father', regardless of the physical changes...
I would feel uncomfortable denying them their birth right ie, their right to call me dad....and my total acceptance of them referring to me as such, is such a small price to pay...
Metta Zenda :)
If other people here it, they and I put it to being an inside joke, just as they have an Aunt john and Uncle Barb. Long story but if you take it in stride, so will others.
