Hi, I'm not really sure where to post this, but anyways.
I've got fairly long hair, as you can see in my profile picture, but my parent's have told me that I have to get a haircut soon since the last time I cut it was the 16th July 2012 and I buzzed it then. Since I hate short hair, but am bad at styling etc. I'd just want to get a haircut that looks decent as it is. Since I don't really consider myself male, at least for the moment, I would like to get a haircut that is gender neutral. So does anyone here have any suggestions?
As I said I don't want short hair, and I'm not interested in coloring it either.
Thanks in advance!
My suggestion would be not to cut your hair, unless that is something you want to do. If your parents are making you do it against your will then perhaps just say no? Every year at Christmas my dad tells me to cut my hair short, and I laugh, joke, tell him I like my long hair and then dismiss it. He doesn't want me to cut it for my sake, he wants me to cut it for his... Which i won't do.
You should look or some short hair style for curly/wavy hair for women. The main difference between a short boy hair cut and a girl who has a boys haircut is that they layer the hair appropriately for girls to still give them the volume boost, styling ability and they to make sure the cut frames their face nicely.
So, if you do cut it short, tell the stylist you want them to cut your hair like they would a girls.
Thanks Vanna!
You are a great inspiration for me.
When you are around your parents, pull it into a ponytail. Ponytails are very androgynous.
If they say, "You look like a girl," just smile and say "Thanks."

One thing about most longer/feminine/andro hairstyles is that they tend to be a bit of maintenance, but that's just part of the experience. I agree with Jamie about ponytails. In my experience, it's more difficult to maintain an gender-crossing style with it shorter than longer. I'd suggest wearing it at least at shoulder length for easy ponytailing and versatility. As for parental pressure, I've found people are tend to be more objecting of bad hair than of long hair. When you obviously take really good care of your hair (neat cut, good shampooing & conditioning, etc.) I've found the hair grinches tend to pipe down a bit.
You seem to be in that age where everyone goes through a bit of struggle in the transition between your parents running your life and making your own decisions about such things. In a couple of years you'll be making your own decisions and you'll both be relieved at not having that pressure anymore.

Thanks Lyric, I'm just wondering how I should get it cut so that I still maintain the length of it. I'm almost 21 years old, but I have Aspergers and am not ready to move away from home yet.
Oh! I just had an idea

They will never, ever, ask you to cut your hair again!
So I cut it, I said that he could take a few centimeters, but he took way more than that.
So this is how it looks as of today.

I like it!
Isn't it a bit too short though?
Not really.
Anyway, do you know what the difference is, between a bad haircut and a good haircut?
About 1 month! ;)
You're right, thanks! ;D
It does look nice 930, quite feminine as well imo :)
Thanks, Bardoux! :)
I think you'd look really great with an asymmetrical cut! It's not the most feminine cut, but I've found that stylish can equal feminine a lot of the time , and asymmetrical and short is all the rage right now :) You have really great hair by the way-very healthy-looking!
Thanks, I really appreciate your help!
Wow, you look really good :D I love your hair as it is!
I would suggest you search pinterest for pins/boards that may be what you are looking for. That's what I did for myself since I didn't want to cut my hair short but still wanted a sort of unisex haircut.
I agree with androgynouspainter26 an asymmetrical haircut would probably look great on you.
you could try getting that haircut layered.
the way to wear longer hair, is in a hairband. tie it just a little up from the neck, but no higher than that.
glare at anyone who says you look to girly, and smile at those who like it.
Great suggestions!
The thing about my hair is that it is extremely thick and I'm 99.9% sure that I'll never go bald, there is no baldness in atleast five generations on either side of my parents. So I'm lucky there.
If I cut my hair too short it gets out of control and I can't do anything with it. And if it grows too long it gets "heavy" and takes forever to brush and it just grows everywhere.
I believe that my hair grows faster than average too. I cut it July 16, 2012 and it was a bit shorter than this then:

(About september 2012)
The longest strand of hair I could find was 4.3cm
And before I cut it last week January 22,2014:

The longest I could find was 34.9cm.
So in 555 days it grew 30.6cm, or about 1.7cm/month.
