We were having a little discussion over in the fun and games threads and thought we'd throw it out to the masses: Who is the greatest men's hockey player of all time? >:-)
Gwynne, we all know that Wayne Gretzky is the greatest. ;)
Loved watching the Kings in the early 90s with Gretzky and his enforcer, McSorley.
Too bad they barely missed the Stanley.

... and I'll tell you why. Look at his face! How do you play an entire career as one of the most hated scoring machines and retire looking so darn good?

Wasn't McSorley the guy that got banned from the NHL for hitting Brashear (sp?) in the head with a stick?

Yeah, same. Surprisingly he's a pretty good coach. Wouldn't be surprised if he adds the Jack Adams trophy to his resume.

Bertuzzi used to own a house in Kitchener, where I lived when this happened. He built a ridiculously tall wall around the property to keep out the hecklers after this happened. It's a miracle Moore didn't die on the ice. :-\

I'm not up on hockey, only 2 names up there are even familiar. Sooo, Gretsky or Orr. I only learned of Orr from crosswords so lets go with Gretsky.

The Finnish Flash, Teemu Selanne!
I think Roy was the best goalie. Buffalo and NJ were primarily focused on defense, so Hasek and Broduer got a lot of help from that, both still great goalies though. Roy was such an ass, hated him as my team, the Wings, always met them in the playoffs. Gretzky was def the best player ever though.
-Kelly
I think Brodeur is better because he holds the most records for any goalie ever. Roy is an ass but I respect him.

Hate Roy lol, he's a total a-hole but he was a great goalie. Still remember him getting into fights with my team :). Hasek and Cujo weren't so great when they came to the Wings, but in fairness, they were older and out of their primes by then.

Greatest goalie is Martin Brodeur.
He definitely is, but as a goalie my coaches have always told me not to idolize him because goalies who do that tend to try to play like him. His style of play only works because he is such a talented player, with lots of good reflexes and instincts. Some goalies have the right skill set to play like that, but obviously no one can play that style better than Brodeur ^-^
The Sabres fan in me had to vote for Dominik Hasek.
But I know in all truth that Wayne Gretzky is probably ze Greatest.

Lol when I used to go to hockey games there would always be this guy wearing a Leafs Jersey even when they weren't playing, I though it was hilarious, but back then the Leafs were better and Mats Sundin was awesome!
