Title: guilty pleasures.
Post by: kariann330 on January 22, 2014, 11:37:16 PM
Ok let's talk food. With most people on diets, trying to loose weight, or just.maintain a healthy weight, we all have a guilty pleasure food that we all sneak in every now and then. So what's yours?

Mine is sloppy joes, served on deep fried tater tots and topped with cheese sauce.

Pizza and Japanese buffets are always the two things that constantly derail my diets. Freaking gyoza, sushi, and artificially processed meat products layered on melty cheese... why must you be so freaking delicious? >:(

Giant Super Burritos. I want one now.  Lets all go to Favela's, or Baldo's, or Adalberto's, or Gordito's.

I envy those with a fast metabolism that can eat more and gain less. I never had the best genes as a guy. As a woman I'll just about have to resign myself to eating nothing but celery.   :embarrassed:

Hmmm... I don't gain a ton even when I'm not working my butt off on the track most days of the week but I suppose the worst thing would be Pizza/Wings/Beer combo that my partner and I love to get from time to time. So good.

Tamales and enchiladas... Especially the enchiladas from my favorite Mexican restaurant (this place is so good, the Texas state legislature awarded them!). They have a buffet - only on Tuesdays and they have their enchiladas on the buffet... Instant diet suicide; but, they're soooo good! :eusa_drool:

Protein...

Trying damn hard to go low protein-highish fats diet for muscle atrophy. Kinda sucks as I'm seemingly lactose-intolerant (milk products don't help my protein counts anyhow.)

So basically I eat a lot of salad drenched in dressing. Would kill for a grilled chicken breast in them...

I'm not on a diet per say I just have to be mindful about how much I eat.

But I do occasionally give myself "Treats" These are all things I'm very prone to overeating with if I'm not careful.
Jelly Sweets
Humus + seasameseed breadsticks
Taramasalata + Surimi sticks.
Anchovy + Cheese + Jalapeño's in crusty bread.

I'm lucky that the things I'm particularly weak against arn't all that fattening (Compared to other food vices I could have)

Great -I'm dieting right now.   It's actually working.  I'm hungry though.

Foods that I really enjoy and really miss:

Grilled Porterhouse or Rib Eye Steaks
Large bowls of Pasta with multiple kinds of spicy meat and a mildly spicy red sauce
Grilled Seafood

One day.....

Hugs,

Jen

There are days (like today) that I would kill to eat things as healthy as pizza or a nice cheeseburguer with fries!

I feel my life needs more color, like a big milk-shake to cheer me up.

I'm growing tired of eating salads and grilled things...ugh...they're not bad, but they're so...so

This thread is EVIL!

I am so hungry now, and since starting HRT I am always hungry.

Oy! I have been craving pickles for months. Had to resort to making them myself. Better. Cheaper.  Healthier.

Other things?

Well, reading this thread has me craving some serious Mexican food, which costs a lot and is hard to find where I live. I think I would eat road kill right now as long as it was wrapped in a cheesy tortilla and smothered in enchilada sauce with rice and beans on the side.

I have also been craving hot sauce, so I have started making my own. Just roasted peppers, roasted garlic, salt and vinegar. Blend, strain and bottle. As hot as I want it.

And lately, Asian soups. Pho! Ramen! Thai soups! Hot and sour Chineese soup! I live in Hawaii, so what we lack in Mexican, we make up for in Asian cuisine. I have convinced myself soup is healthier than rice dishes.

Now, for those who do not know, great ramen is NOTHING like the stuff college kids survive on. There is heat and serve ramen and then there is RAMEN OF THE GODS. Let me put this another way. Mexican lovers, is Taco Bell authentic Mexican?

I may have to eat my own foot this thread has me so hungry.

Chocolate or ice cream are the usual ones. And very occasionally, wine!

But it's all give and take. I do enough exercise to keep my weight at the ideal for a girl of my height. So they're less guilty than otherwise could be.

Taco Bell is alright - Americanized Mexican food.  What can I say?

It really isn't so hard to make your own.  I do once or twice a week.

Oh yeah!

I have made about every single Mexican dish known to humanity. Even make my own tortillas and enchilada sauce.

As for Taco Bell, I was raised on it. I do frequently crave it. I just think it is its own food group rather than Mexican.

Hmm well Oscar Meyer and I have a good thing going, he always wants my buns! ::)

Noo, Hot Dogs actually make me sick. Anyone else feel sick after eating hot dogs?

Lots of Pizza, ICE CREAM, Brocoli and cheese, the Chinese buffet but I hardly go there.

We should just start an ice cream thread. :P

I grew up with the best beef chop suey from a family owned take out down the street . The beef chop suey was perfect no need for the American vegetables. I don't Know If it's possible other then making it your self to find it done right any more. Saw a small take out awhile back that looked promising so I ordered and got broccilli and carrots and what ever, takes away from the flavor. You can special order from an understanding Chinese cook though.

I think most of what we call "Chinese food" was.  A friend from mainland China once told me that they refer to what is served here as "American food".

There's a lot of rice involved and an occasional wok stir-fry, but if you go to Beijing looking for General Tso's chicken or sweet-and-sour pork, nobody will know what the hell you're talking about.  Expect organ meats.  And yes, China is a HUGE place with many local cuisines and delicacies.   People just eat what is readily available to them.

Most of what american's consider ethnic food is not an accurate representation of the food eaten in those actual countries, and is thus an american invention. That doesn't, however, mean its not delicious :-)

My guilty pleasure it to sit and eat an entire 1 pound chub of salami. Sadly I can't do that anymore. In California you could go into any grocery store and buy a chub of gallo salami. Since moving to the midwest two and a half years ago I have no found one grocery store that sells salami.  :'(
