Title: Applied For A Job . . .
Post by: Gina Taylor on January 27, 2014, 05:00:36 PM
Last Friday {1-24-14} I stopped at a perfume store at our local shopping mall and I found this lovely fragrance. The sales clerk told me that she would sell it to me for $39.00, so I told her it's have to wait till I got my money. She told me no problem. I was back at the mall on Sunday and I saw a HELP WANTED sign in the window, so I went into inquire. She asked me if I was there to buy the perfume, and I told her that I was inquiring about the HELP WANTED sign. She told me to bring in a resume, and I told her that I'd see her tomorrow. So I went back and gave her my resume, and I mentioned in it that I'm a transsexual, but at least I think that she thought I was passable. I'll know in a few days if I've got a job or not.

Good luck, Gina.

That store will be lucky if you end up working there.

Good luck!

I've applied for a couple of jobs myself today.

Hey, if you get this job, then you can buy the perfume!

Best of luck! Also, if you don't hear back from them in a week max, give them a call or go there in person and ask them if they wished to meet with you for an interview.

I totally agree with this. If you don't hear from anybody soon, go back, and at the very least, it will show them that you are totally interested in the job. Hope u get it, good luck!

I most definitely will! :) My presentation has always been good, so if the owner asks the employee that I saw there what I was like, I'm sure she'll give him a good recommendation.

Wait no longer than Friday to call back. That way, when they start setting up interviews on monday, your name will stick out.

After I was done here yesterday, I went over to the mall and I met the owner.  I was in guy mode. While in the store another customer came in and the owner was out talking with someone. The lady asked me about some perfume and I told her that I didn't work there, but I tried to assist her as much as I could. Then when she needed some help, I went and got the owner, and he found a discontinued perfume that she had been looking for for 2 years.  I then started to talk more in depth with the owner and he was impressed on how I kept the customer there until the sale was closed. When I told him that I had dropped off my resume he knew exactly which one it was.  He told me that he doesn't usually hire 'guys' so I explained to him that I was a transsexual and he wanted me to come back.

Later that afternoon, I returned and he told me that I looked beautiful, and that he wanted me to come back next week so that we could set up something for a work schedule. So it looks like I got the job!

First off my thanks goes out to Malachite, and then to Jerri. Thanks sister! :) Thanks for the congratulations Cynthia and yeah Kelly like yourself I'm living my dream and I'll be working as a woman!  :) And thanks Shana-Chan for your best wishes.  :)

Now as for the hours, the owner works Tuesdays {which works out good for me, because I have to take my niece to soccer} and so I'll only be asking off for Thursdays, so I'll be able to work Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. And I've spoken with the other employee there, and she sees no problem. :) And she told me that I must have really impressed him by taking the initiative by coming back.  :)

I went to see my new employer today and he greeted me nicely with a 'Hello dear," and then he apologized to me for being a bit busy with inventory over the past week. He then told me to give him a few days to decide. As I left the store, I noticed that the HIRING sign had been taken down.  :)  He told me that he would be taking me on Part Time, which would be good, because of the limitations with my disability.  :)

Went to Social Security today, and I found out that there should be no problem with me taking on the job as long as I'm working two days a week. The only problem that I do foresee is the months that have five weeks, but at least they can be overlooked.  :)

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement Gennee! :) I was very happy when I heard how well it was going to be for me. My mom has been trying to find loopholes so that I wouldn't be able to take the job, but I think it really ticked her off when I went over her head and found out things for myself! :eusa_dance:

Tuesday came and went and the gentleman who owns the perfume store never bothered to call me to let me know anything. To be perfectly honest, I think he was just leading me on . . . I don't think he had any intention on hiring me. So I'll just wait for the next opportunity and hopefully  my next employer will be more honest with me. :(

Sorry to hear this though, maybe something came up and he never got the chance to call you? (This is wrong but it happens) My advice is call him again, you never know Gina, he really might not of had time to call you. If you give him a call and try and meet with him, then you will know your answer. Besides, what if it turns out you're mistaken in what you thought was the case and you didn't call him back and find out what was going on? The result is no job and it could have been a job in which you loved doing. I hope you'll call and find out what's going on and either way, best of luck with this or the next job!

Sorry to hear he did not call. Perhaps calling him tomorrow would refresh his memory. Retail merchants usually are direct and do not lead others on. I hope it works out for you. Hang in there.

Thanks for the good advice Shana-chan and Cynthia.  :) I just saw my therapist and he told me that the letter that my future employer needs I have to get from disability and not him, so I'll try to get it on Monday so that I can give it to my future employer on Tuesday, since that is the only day that he works.

This is evil. Just evil.

Well at least they saved you from working in a place where your management made promises they weren't going to keep.

Are you going to keep looking? The perfume store's loss will be some other lucky place's gain.

You're absolutely right! I think that the person that I saw first was impressed on how much of  a change he saw when I returned a few hours later. Unfortunately the second owner only saw me as my feminine self so he'll never be able to tell the difference.

Thank you Cindy for those sweet and uplifting words. My roommate was just telling me the other day that what I should do is go and apply at some of the big department stores {JC Penny's, Dillard's, etc.} because they can not discriminate me because I am a transsexual. As long as I'm up front with them like I was at the perfume store, things may work out better.  :)

Sorry to hear what happened. That is REALLY wrong and annoying when people lead you on thinking you have a job. My only question about this is, did you ever get to re-speak to the guy you first met and did you get to ask him about what the 2nd guy said? As for what you said above, if you don't have a bad feeling about it I'd say go for it! Either way, don't give up, you'll find your job sooner or later. :)

There's no sense in beating a dead horse, Shana-chan. The first guy I think was just impressed on how I could change from being a guy to a beautiful woman. The second owner never saw me as my male persona so all he's seen me as is as my feminine persona and I'd noticed that a few new girls had already started working at the perfume store.  Today I'm gonna go apply at some of  the department store at our mall and I'll see what happens.  :) I'm not one to easily give up that fast.

Well, the dead horse part I agree, I just hate it when something unfair happens. So I try to fight and speak up for fairness to happen, it isn't easy though but hey! Good luck on the  job hunt at those dept. stores! :)

I understand your concern Shana-chan. Too many people get ripped off by thinking at first that they have a job and then they don't. When I saw the owner the first time, and he invited me back to talk about some hours I really thought I had a job, but then he started to stall me, and that's when I started to get a little cautious about it. Especially when I started seeing new girls working in the store. However, I wen to JC Penny and was treated nicely and I spent a half hour filling out an application on the computer and spent time filling out an aptitude test, but the only problem I foresee is that it asked me if I wanted a report sent to me, and I gave my social security number which would give them my male name and I applied under my female name, now this hopefully shouldn't cause any problems. It might give me something to go in and speak with a manager about . . .  ;D
