Title: Weight distribution
Post by: Sir Real on January 28, 2014, 02:41:50 PM
Hey guys. I'm wondering if anyone might have some information on this. I'm hoping to start on T sometime in the next few months. Now I understand that redistribution in weight can take some time. But I'm hoping to start really gaining some healthy weight when I start but I'm of course nervous about gaining growth in my moobs or hips or thighs. I'll also likely be trying to slowly put on a bit of muscle of course too. Any ideas on when I can "safely" start bulking up? Common sense would tell me once t levels are within normal male range but things don't always work according to common sense lol.

Bibilinda wrote an excellent post on how to start getting a start on a more masculine shape here: https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,84528.0.html
I also found this to be personally helpful: http://ftmguide.rassaku.net/fitness2.htm

The best thing to do is to listen to your body when it comes to bulking up.  Providing you're healthy(check with your doctor, I don't want to hear about you keeling over), you can start building muscle any time and don't have to wait for T to do so(though I noticed it helped me build muscle for sure).  A good rule is if it hurts, stop doing it.

Once you start T it might take some time to see movement of current fat from your hips and thighs to your stomach and other more masculine weight carrying areas, however new weight will start packing on in appropriate places.  After I started T I gained about 15lb, some of muscle, some of fat.  Almost all of the fat I gained ended up in my belly area.

Just make sure whatever diet/exercise plan you do is sustainable and safe!

Theres no reason to wait for T to start gaining muscle and losing fat. I had a muscular build long before starting T.  Get a good clean healthy diet, which includes the right balance of fats/carbs/protein and eating 5x per day with the correct caloric intake for you. Get a good workout routine involving cardio and weight lifting. Boobs are fat (though yes its true there is breast tissue but that based on genetics and won't increase or decrease based on exercise or diet, just the fat in them will). The more fat you lose and the more muscle you gain, will lead to decreased size in boobs, hips, butt, etc. It takes a while to do this so don't get frustrated. Like I tell people a workout forum I'm on... You didn't get your existing body overnight, don't expect drastic changes over night from working out. If it was easy, everyone would do it. It takes hard work and commitment but you definitely can start now and it will help you down the road. There are no negative effects you will gain from doing any of this pre-T.

Think of it like this... women have a higher body fat percentage than men. The most undesirable things for FTMs regarding body composition are those areas that the body fat settles regardless if you're overweight or not.

Thanks for the replies, and so sorry it's taken so long to respond.  I think I may have worded this badly.  I'm currently a bit underweight and am thinking I need to gain some weight but I'm terrified of my moobs, thighs and hips getting any bigger, especially moobs because right now they are small and manageable and I'd probably be able to get peri surgery which is what I'd prefer.  Even if I worked out, I would still gain fat from what I've understood.  I was wondering when the fat would start distributing like it should in a man when I start on T if anyone has any ideas on this? I'm thinking I'd rather hold out on really trying to gain until then.

Within days. Any fat added after T will go to belly first as it does with other men.
