My mom did similarly, saying how she was worried I'd never come back or it would somehow go wrong.... Etc, also saying she wish I'd get the surgery here. The fear comes from  the belief that there isn't any other place in the world or everywhere  else in the world is not as good as the good old USA. Also it's probably a last ditch attempt to get more time ever that they hope you will change your mind and also de-transition.

I haven't experienced family freak out yet. It's been made clear my mom doesn't support surgery. Therefore she will not be visiting me in recovery. Whatever.
