Title: Speaking in Middle C
Post by: Kyra553 on February 08, 2014, 08:59:36 PM
I'm curious if anyone has any tips for speaking in middle C tone. I've watched a few youtubes with people speaking about how they altered their voice by speaking in middle C tone. So I would like to know more ways of getting there or if anyone has done this method or if anyone has input.  :)

I've found this video the most usefull so far.

I know next to nothing about vocal training, and just plan to wing it, but still, if I sing a middle C4, and then try to talk around C4 as around the middle of my voice it just feels and seems way too high honestly. I've heard that talking anywhere from the intervals of a perfect fourth to a perfect fifth above what your voice normally is works as a good way to feminize your voice. Also, when she was starting out in her middle C, it seemed a bit lower than what middle C actually is, so I think as she said, it's best to focus more on inflection, and as I've heard, it's more important to try to get rid of harmonic resonance than it is to raise the pitch. So trying to get rid of that sort of raspy sound, and trying to talk from higher in your head is supposed to help from that. However, I know a lot about music, not vocal feminizing. I'll try to play around with that and see if it really is too high like I feel like right now. Best of luck to you with this method, if you do try it.

Middle C (C4) (262 cycles/sec, or Hz) is too high a speaking pitch. In the short section of the video I've checked out, she's mostly hovering between E3 and G3, 165-196 Hz, which is a low-medium female speaking range.

A word of caution, however: her voice seems quite forced. I'm not sure if her way of speaking is quite so healthy for the vocal cords.

Greetings,

Amy

Am I the only one to think that her "male voice" totally is not really THAT male? ;)

I had the same thought; she sounded just as good to me speaking in her lower (not lowest) voice.

What totally gives her away though is the coughing or clearing the throat in between - it goes way deeper than the speaking voice. If she would use that more middle range that sounded just as female really IMO, the discrepancy would be less noticeable. OR learn how to do these things in a higher pitch as well, seems that is possible in the FYFV program.
