Title: Hello!
Post by: UnlockingJack on February 12, 2014, 07:53:45 PM
Hello everyone! I already introduced myself over in the Androgyne talk area but I thought I'd do it here as well.

I'm Jack! I'm 28, and live in Minnesota with my husband and our cats. I recently went through a number of massive life overhauls (lost over 70 pounds, confronted myriad fears, changed my entire style and aspects of my personality to align with the person I want to be) that allowed me to finally open the "gender confusion" box I'd hidden in the back of my mind my entire life. A few months of discussion with friends and judicious use of google and tumblr, and I came to realize, hey, I'm androgyne! Neat! That explains a lot!

So I recently started the process of changing my name (most of my friends now know me as Jack, but at work and with my mother I'm still my birth name, and I can't afford a legal change anytime soon). I've wanted the name Jack since I was six years old, but always assumed it just wasn't something I could have, like the male sex characteristics I've also wanted since I was little. With a lot of help from my friends and husband, I've accepted that I deserve to be called a name that fits me and is comfortable for me.

I'm probably going to seek out a therapist soon, once I figure out how to find someone genderqueer-friendly, since there's a lot of things I'd like to discuss and work out still, but for now I'm pretty happy in the life I've made for myself. My friends are universally supportive and I feel incredibly lucky. Someday I'll have to figure out what to tell my mother and extended family, but for now I'm comfortable where I am.

Glad I found this forum, and excited to talk with you all!

A big warm welcome to the family! This is a very safe place to find yourself or answers unique to us and it is because of our wonderful moderators. They do a great job keeping the peace and protecting us from the wolves out there. Feel free to ask question (of any kind), vent, rant, learn and have some fun along the way. If you ever need a shoulder to cry on or someone to listen to a problem you are having do that as well. It should not take you very long to figure out this family cares and wants to see you successful and happy. Here is a BIG HUG ( :icon_hug:) to welcome you and start your journey of discovery. :)

Hi Jack,

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.

There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.

Looks like you've been having a lot of fun lately. Sounds like you have garnered a lot of support and acceptance along the way as well. It's good to know you've finally accepted who you really are. That's the most important thing in your life.

With the positive attitude you have and the clarity of vision you have for your future, I hope you realise it all very soon.

Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.

Lotsa huggs
Catherine
