Title: While I was doing my shot I lost quite a few little drops and some oozed out
Post by: androidnick on February 13, 2014, 11:17:39 AM
So yeah, I don't know what went wrong with my head but I didn't do it the way I usually do and as a result I lost quite a few TINY drops when trying to push air bubbles out. On top of that, when I pulled the needle out, I had a nice little bit of ooze from the T. It was just coming out of my leg. I kinda smeared it on my thigh. I figure why waste it. I don't know if that is something dumb to do. Anyway, has this happened to you guys? Do you think it will have any sort of effect on my levels?

It should not effect your levels unless it happens frequently. It you have a problem with oozing just do what us Paramedics did. It is called a "Z" track injection. Simply pinch (not too hard) and slightly lift the injection area skin and rotate it just a little. After the injection let go and the skin will cover the injection hole. In other words the holes will not match up and allow leakage. Problem solved! :)

One other thing to keep in mind if this is happening frequently, make sure to hold th needle in place for several seconds after you have done your injection vs pulling it put right away. Anyways it sounds like this normally doesn't happen and it was just a small amount so don't worry about it, your levels won't be affected much if at all. When you draw T as it is, its not exactly the same each time even when trying to be so those few drops could be the difference between one draw and the next realistically.

Like others have said, it won't make a huge difference in your T levels unless it happens frequently. As far as I know, I've always had tiny amounts of T oozing out after the injection from what my fiancée has told me but I've never noticed a difference.

Plus I don't really think smearing the oozed out T on the skin will do anything. It's not dangerous but I'm pretty sure it won't have any effect, especially if it's IM stuff. :P

That's normal. I usually get a little that comes back out too. The drops you lost were probably just the drops that were inside the actual needle portion of the syringe that wouldn't have come out while injecting anyway. That's why in the bottles most pharmacies will add an extra ml because you lose a little from the bottle each time you draw it up.

More info on the Z track injections mentioned earlier: http://www.nursingcenter.com/upload/static/592775/Take5_Ztrack.pdf (http://www.nursingcenter.com/upload/static/592775/Take5_Ztrack.pdf)

If you try them, don't be absentminded like me and let go during the middle of the injection! This completely defeats the point, and then some.

It happens to me every once in awhile too. That little bead or two of T looks to be a lot more to us than it is in reality.

This happens to me occasionally and I've found that, immediately after taking the needle out, rubbing with a tissue in circles is a good way to get it to stop and help the T stay put. If you do lose a couple drops, it shouldn't make a difference. I had the same question for my doctor, who assured me it happens frequently.
