Do i have to call and schedule an appointment first? I'm just going to request a prescription for female hormones. It's just an hour from me so I'm tempted to go tomorrow, especially since after my doctor's visit in mid-January i told my doctor i was transgender and he told me to go to Mazzoni. Lastly, am i paying for the hormones from Mazzoni myself?
You do have to make an appointment. They will then schedule you two. One for a new patient ajd the other for an intake wirh a social worker. They will give ya the rundown on what to expect and have you sign that you understand. They will take some blood and then on you next visit if everything checks out you can get a prescription. You arw getting the meds from the wallgreens attached to the center and will be paying what ever isn't covered by Insurance. On average it will be 2+ weeks for your appointment wherever you make it. The place is quite busy.
Do not be late for your appointment, even 2 minutes late and you may need to reschedule.
There is a patient portal which helps to schedule everything. Tell them you are transgender and want HRT.
When you speak with the Social Worker tell her everything (Elaine Dutton is wonderful). You can not shock them and it will feel so good to get it out. They have heard it all and will not judge you.
If you want meds at cost then when you see the PA tell them you are paying out of pocket and funds are low. Cialis retails for $1000.00 and costs $15.80 for 30. Finateride costs $18.80 for 30 days. I get E and AA through insurance so I do not know the price. I communicate through the portal with my PA and can get scripts and when I go to the pharmacy they are ready. What I like about Walgreens next to Mazzoni ( place you will get the discount meds) is that they see a lot of Trans* and they are cool :). If they try to charge you full price tell them you are a patient Mazzoni and there is a number you tell them (I never did I just said I am a patient at Mazzoni).
Dusty Latimer PA-C is the best Health Care worker I have ever been in contact with and he is beautiful too, eyes to die for. He listens to you and offers support. He told me, "Your identity is something you should not have to compromise" at a very important time. I think of this every day. No compromise.
The thing about Mazzoni is that being there and open I am with like people, very cool feeling. The place treats a lot of trans*. So being trans* is no big deal.
If you make less the $45,000/yr ask them to help you fill out the American Healthcare Act paperwork, if you need help. They see a lot of patients without insurance and use a sliding fee scale.
I park at Jefferson in a high rise 8th and Locust, I think.
If you need more help PM me. I am in the gayborhood every week.
out of curiosity do they accept youth too?
Absolutely they accept kits. Check out there web site under trans program. They also have some very good social workers that and can you.
They work with a lot of street kids and have under 25 Wednesday night walk in program. I have seen street kids walk in without an appointment. Some are on the edge and really need help.
If you (or someone you know) need help there is a way to get help. Contact William Way or the Attic ( LGBT youth part of William Way).
^ awesome thank you very much :) if things don't work out with my therapist I would like to go to this clinic, only a few hours from my house, I'm not inclined to wait 6 more months when iv'e been waiting around 17years for this ;)
There is a patient portal. If HRT is for you and you are sure then register and make an appointment. Tell them you are trans and want HRT. You will see a Social Worker first step.
thank you very much for the information :)
