This is probably overkill of a topic, but I'm just curious to find out when everyone started noticing any kind of breast development, whether its itchy nipples or soreness to full on gynecomastia or small bumps :P. I've seen some people say the first month or two, and others say the first 5 days. Anyone know the exact date where they noticed a different feeling or noticeable appearance (or both) in the chest area? Sorry if this topic has been somewhat overdone >_<
I only started HRT a few days ago, and I the only thing I have really noticed is that stimulating my nipples and breast area really turns me on in a way it never did before.
I'm kind of hoping that the breast growth takes a little bit of time. Unlike you, I am not ready to go out in the world in girl form yet. I have a lot of things that need working on, mainly my voice, and my man-arms.
I think you summed it up. They start within a week to a few months... Sometimes never.
Mother Nature is weird.
The vast majority see/fee some difference within the first month according to a poll taken in another forum here. Can't find the link right now.
It is different for everybody depending on many factors including dosage and type of medication you are using.
We can not tell you with certainty that it will happen on the Tuesday after you start HRT.
Three months and then one day in the mirror I was like, wait...what! Suddenly quite noticeable.
I got mine almost immediately after I went up to a full dosage; the pain is pretty much gone at this point, but I'm still noticing some minor growth at the one year mark. Not that the growth in question is significant, but still...
I always had gynecomastia, but my right breast was clearly bigger than the left.
On the first week of HRT (probably on the third day), my nipples started to get a bit swollen.
After one month fat started to deposit on my breasts and they started to grow in size (the right one still a lot ahead).
On the second month I could notice a small lump behind my nipples and, oh my, they did hurt when touched! I had to learn to avoid sleeping with my back up! ;)
On the third month the lumps got bigger and my nipples and areolas increased in size.
On the fourth month my left breast grew a lot and now both my boobies are almost the same size. They got clearly noticeable and it's been hard to hide them, mainly because they just love to swing around when I walk :D
On the last week (almost 5 months) I noticed that my right breast is getting a tubular shape. My areolas are huge (around 5 cm) and, after measuring, I concluded that I am with a 38B cup right now.
Just remembering, breast growth don't follow a steady line. You can pass days without noticing anything and, when you are starting to get concerned, suddenly they decide to grow!
Good luck to you :)
I would say 1 week I noticed my nipples got more erect and a minor small bump under the nipple. The soreness started and progressed steadily. I am sore now and the peas under the nipples are large rings. Funny, when I was exercising tonight I did not have a sports bra. My wife commented I am bouncing all over the place :)
I was on spiro by itself for 4 months before getting on estrogen as well. For me, breast changes started after about week two on spiro, with just a dull itching. They got up to about a 32B by the time I got on estrogen, most of their tissue was very conical by that point. Estrogen has filled them out a little, I'm a 32D now at month 2.75 (6 more days till i hit the month 3 mark). Not completely sure how I got to where I am now so quickly, but I know when I was 10 I had a horrible soreness behind my nipples that lasted for months, and looking back, I must have developed breast buds back then. In any case, genetics are crazy.
32D in under three months? Holy doritos!
I've been on spiro and estradial for three weeks starting today and I haven't felt or seen any changes at all... I'm sure I'll see something as the months and years drag on. But I can't help but feel if I haven't seen anything at all yet, that my changes are going to be pretty tame on the stuff compared to most. Bad genes I suppose.
Three weeks is not long and 3 months for that kind of progress is unusual.
5 days was in fact when I went down a flight of stairs and yowled. :) I thought I was imagining things up to that point (and no, I didn't do it on purpose!).
I was a 40C by 3 months, I think. It's been a while...
On the other hand, I'm 99% sure at this point that a quick start didn't mean bigger at the finish - just finished growing sooner. 4 years on HRT this month and I suspect mine are just about done growing, maybe a little filling out left to go. Some women see slow but steady growth for 10 years, though!
I noticed a difference in about an hour, but after three years my boobs haven't grown much at all. They look a lot different, I could NEVER go shirtless while on HRT, but most shirts conceal their size pretty effectively. :(

About 45 years before I started HRT
After one week my nipples were erect. I felt tenderness and growth within two to three weeks. Hugs Shannon
One week shy of two months for me. I woke up and my nipples and breast area around them were sore. Have passed the 2 month anniversary today. They are still sore when bumped or pinched, but do not hurt otherwise.
I noticed the very first signs of possible nipple growth, just to the point that maybe they looked the slightest bit more conical rather than completely flat, after about 2 weeks of HRT. Mild tenderness started. I officially hit the "bud" stage where there was a definitive difference in size and shape that was visible in pictures, I could feel a lump under the nipples, and soreness really started, after about 2 months. These buds then continued to progress through the "Tanner II" stage, with budding and aureolar enlargement but no soft tissue, until around the 6-month mark. Soft tissue, actual round breast tissue, started coming in at 6 months, and they've been progressively looking more and more like adult female breasts ever since, with a Tanner-III-type appearance. Soreness is still ongoing, and seems to come and go in spurts.
Every girl is different.. some grow fast and some are slow... it depends on genetics
me, i was a fast grower in the beginning, but slowed down as time when on..
I remember I started HRT on a Monday... and the Tuesday morning I felt my nipples were a bit itchy.. during the first week my nipples started to get a bit swollen. I had a small lump behind my nipples and my aureola's increased in size by the end of week 2. I reached A cup by the end of month 1... B cup by end of month 3.. then things slowed down... C cup by the end of year one..
I only reached a D cup almost 2 years into HRT... I think I have very nice breasts... My roommate who is a girl has seen my topless, when we tan in the privacy of our yard says I have stunning breasts.. I think her's are not too bad either.. she has larger aureola's than me, but she only has C cups. We both tan topless, as we both hate strap marks... it looks stupid when we wear strappy tops/dresses.
my aureola's are about 4.5cm wide with nice size nipples.. With D cups you do feel some weight so a good bra is important.
What helped my breasts mature and fill out, I took a herbal medication.. with consent from my doctor.. to lactate... I did get to the point where i expressed milk...expressing milk is wonderful.. i loved the feeling of the pump sucking on my breasts.. and this made my breasts round out.
I would love DD breasts, but my breast growth is done... maybe later on I will get implants to boost my size to DD..
Breast growth is painful and a padded bra is a welcome form of protection,, and learn to sleep on your back, especially when you are budding..
oh noleen... music to my ears...
you are one lucky woman! can't wait to start hrt!
It can take some time, no worries. When I first started hrt, I noticed at about the 3 week mark that my nippels were swelled and hurt a hella lot. My breasts buds came in a couple weeks later and over a few weeks more they became rather pointy.
At 5 months now my arealas are the diameter of a Canadian $2 coin (they are LARGE) and I'm currently a 34 C cup.
So ya just never know how it will go.
Been on HRT for a week now and nothing yet.
First changes were in the nips, and quick. Then slow growth monthly, but hard to see it, yet every week there would be a little something else.
At 9 months I am still an A cup. Not unusual for a 55 year old. But I thought I would be a B by now. And not much aveaola development.
Oh am I jealous. I am praying I get a B before they stop growing. But even though small, its so reassuring to have them, and they feel really nice. Still relatively easy to conceal.
I noticed some slight growth on Spiro only after about three weeks. One week later I added Estrogen. Ten days after that I was a 38 C. I've now been on Spiro for seven weeks and Estrogen for three weeks, and I swear they are bigger than they were yesterday.
Thank you pre - never - post op women.
I, never having ventured into this forum, now can, hopefully give back. Point: I was diagnosed as TG by age five. My parents were medical professional's in San Fran, CA, my Father a surgeon; my Mom a NP. BOTH loved me as - me. I never knew different from he time my older sister let me wear her dress too small for her, and panties as we played dolls. I was seen, not rejected, and the questions began. After multitudes of doctors and I say "psych" friends of my parent's, by five I was on my way to become ONLY just a regular girl. At that age I only knew, like many other children, I was born a girl with birth defects - as I have accepted early growing up; that was I has incorrect genitals for a girl. I always knew I was a girl from 4 years old. My parent's knew "Ideally, in order to maximise the physical benefits, low level oestrogen treatment of the young transsexual boy-to-girl should begin at age eight to nine years. Before the onset of male puberty (at about age eleven)." I got the help I needed.
As I entered 7th grade I was in a private school in SF, I was already on "puberty delaying meds", wore regular feminine clothing like other girls, but was ashasmed I had a birth defect.
Fast forward: I was late in developing breasts to age 14. It was just that, My girlfriends, my sister, encouraged me, but I felt great shame I had a birth defect, and was not developing; though MY Parents supported me, and told me it was a hard time. For girls to grow up like me, I was loved. Finally, I developed itchy nipples. Then, only breast buds as fullness over maybe eight months until I got a BRA PARTY! like many other girls! It was a training bra BUT I was developing true breasts like my girlfriends! To this day, at 24 I am only a double B-cup, C - with push-up' Victoria Secret bras - but I am very happy I developed like other girls my age and was wearing bras by 14 on!, and some natal girls even later than me. Only for me, I am happy, becoming, beyond my growth to a feminine body FIRST puberty as much a girl as possible then - a few years are secret, and I had genital correction surgery by 16 over-seas. The best, as my Dad was a surgeon, and, yes - money. By most any probing web, etc., I am protected, as tracing goes inland, then over-seas, etc. I humbly now thank my wise parent and hope ALL other born, or later understand they are female to get the opportunites I had. Thank you, to my WELL deserved, hard working, well off parents. I wish I could make dreams come true for others, but am now in love with a wonderful man since 18, who knows, but never knew other than a young woman. I am not "gorgously beautiful", only I hope, as Brad says, and my parents and friends, a pretty and nice, compassionate girl/woman. Young, or any other breast development, is essential to point, in which we must accept our femaninity, and forever reject male clothing! Even now, I mainly only wear dresses, skirts and blouses, (lingerie, make-up, anything reserved for our internal beauty as female.
Breast development made it impossible to turn back; thanks to medical science, and faith, I am, who I am. Boobs are GREAT as my boyfriend... and my vulva...my heart, LOVE surpasses ALL, I believe. I know mgt. must take this out, OK. but I MUCH prefer having female genitals. Hearts...

When I took my first shots at 20 it started within a week.
I seriously couldn't believe it happened so quick. I had the itching, nipple swelling, soreness all that. I wasn't on t-blockers or anything. If I hadn't stopped my transition back then and kept going I'm sure my girls would be huge by now. My mother had 3x D's almost an E before she had a reduction so I know I would've been BLESSED!!!
I'm a C sup now and after 17 mos it's almost like things have stopped. I wish they were rounder but I still have a way to go so anything could happen. I'll be getting implants anyway so if you can't grow the ones you want buy em.
This makes me sad. I don't feel anything and it's been over a week now.

Don't worry, HRT works someway like this: nothing one day, nothing on the next, then... wow what's this? ??? Boobs! :o :o
You might be already noticing your skin becoming softer. Your body odour changes too, to a more sweet feminine scent. This happens usually on the first weeks.

About a week into HRT i noticed my nipples were itchy, aboout 2 weeks they started to have lumps underneath adn got really sensitive. Since then the lumps under the nipple are about as wide as a nickel and some breasts have started to show ("man" boobs lol")
So I'm 17 days in, and I think my face or skin is smoother, but that could just be all in my head or a result of me actually using face-cleansing products now. My mood and emotional level is the same, unless you count being slightly more sympathetic as a change, but seeing as i've always been highly sympathetic, i cant really say if this is just normal more or more sympathetic me. No itchy nipples or breast tenderness or soreness or whatever. No other changes for that matter. My wife told me that my "neck looked/felt skinnier" and i have gone down in weight, but i've been dieting hard so thats to be expected :P
its a lot of vague changes with vague explanations.

Don't worry, you're not alone. 17 days and still nothing that could be a clear sign of difference :P
The only thing that IS working at a fast rate is the testosterone blockers... no more random erections and lowered sex drive, and no more "morning" issues either :P but it's had no effect on my appearance or mood/mind :P
aaaaaaany day now.
I started HRT a week ago (just Spiro and estrogen), and I've just started noticing itching, slight tenderness, sensitivity, and some heat generation from my chesticle region. I also feel a small swollen bit under each nipple. The left side has all of this more noticeably. It's definitely just started though, and it is coinciding with the arrival of more mental effects.
I wasn't expecting it to come this soon but I am totally not complaining, lol. I'm pretty excited
Also last night my girlfriend said that my chest feels "squishier" :3 I hope she wasn't just being nice haha
I've read through several of these kinds of posts and just wanted to interject something here.
Breast growth is a YMMV issue for everyone, some fast, some slow, there are women on here that have grown large enough to not worry about implants, etc, and my main point here is..
Be Patient with your body..
I've read up and spoken with Several doctors on the issue to know what I would be looking forward to, and the reason I'm posting here is that the growing cycle can last anywhere from 5 to 7 years with breasts. Think on that.. Years.. once your growth cycle has been started/triggered.
As for if you can restart this cycle more than once, that is debatable and risky to say the least as you would be causing your body to jump back and forth. We all love the feeling when we pass the signs and milestones that we establish.
Just take the time to respect your body, it's limits and treat it with care.
SoShy
According to my super scientific, and totally not just a random google docs text document, progress diary...Around 3 weeks prior to starting on Estrogen, althought that was after a month of careful ramping up of spiro.
Now 3 months in, the first set of buds have expanded and they are certainly noticeable, if I am not wearing a top or I choose the wrong colour or too tight clothing...
The greatest change has actually been in the look and feel of the nipples, you don't really realize just how different male and female nipples are until your own begin changing and every day you are like "woa that's different"
...
Also breast massaging works...its a thing, DON'T MOCK IT!
...
Okay you can mock it a little...
I started having sore nipples before the first week was up. Now that I'm almost 3 months in on a low dose HRT regiment I have noticeable breast development, even my doctor was amazed. I guess it helps that I have OCD's and keep a very strict regiment of when I take my HRT at nearly the exact same time every day to keep things level as possible.
first week sore nipples and hasn't stopped yet at beginning 5 months
I was on a low dose of both estrogen and T-blockers for half a year. After my doctor raised my blockers and a month later switching to shots my breasts started growing a lot faster. They were very tender the first couple months and that faded. Right now I'm noticing growth because my bras are filling in more constantly and by summer I probably will be a 34b, I'm currently filling out a 34a. I'm also on progesterone. It takes time and they won't fully develop for 2-4 years. Just have fun and enjoy your ride into womanhood :]
Let me just add this for those girls who are still only a month into things.
If you just started taking spiro you REALLY need to let it do it's thing and let the t-levels drop. Once it does you're sure to see things change. 17-18 days is nothing just be patient and watch the magic happen.
Also be sure to eat good portion meals because food helps things a lot.
Someone bought up massaging, trust me this helps. When things start getting sore be sure to do this. I used to do it laying in bed watching tv it also helps with the soreness.
I have been on spiro alone since may and I noticed tenderness and breast buds in august. My endo shifted my doses regularly and they kinda settled down in september and they were totaly gone when she switched me to androcur in november. I started E in february exactly one month ago and they have return but I dont experience any pain like others have described, just sore hard lumps under my nipples and they arent even sensitive. I am afraid if my endo kinda screwed up my progress but she says there is nothing to worry about yet and assures me that everything is normal. I guess breast devolopment is YMMV
I swear there is 10 times more hurt than growth....my right one, which had been lagging behind has all the sudden started to catch up with the left one in the most painful of ways.
What is interesting to me, is that about half the ciswomen I have talked to about this experienced some level of "growing pains" with their breasts in puberty and the other half seem to have only had issues like this with birth control or pregnancy. This is strange to me as I assumed such growing pains were universal but they don't seem to be.
It looks like I'm at day 11 of HRT and today is the day that my nipples started to become very sensitive. Luckily I already bought some sports bras for the occasion. :)

Congrats girl, from now on it's only happiness! ;D
But talking about sports bra...
I've been wearing a compression tank in order to try hiding my breasts and reduce their movement...but I am afraid this can be dangerous someway. I don't know, my breasts hurt a bit when wearing the tank and I don't like the idea of compressing them when all they want is to grow free and happy!
Can this be dangerous and impact on my breasts development?
Spiro only, 2 months, they got tender and I noticed very small bumps underneath the nipples.
Surprise, surprise. You got breasts now, and emotions bubbling up to go along with them.
Natalia : Serious compression (=binding) can damage developing breast tissue. Light compression (=most sports bras) is fine. Personally I'd guess that your compression tank is not a risk... but I'd also recommend erring on the side of caution, just in case, so you might want to find a slightly less aggressive option.
I had a lot of luck with a regular high-compression sports bra with a T-shirt and loose overshirt layered on top. There are also men's exercise compression shirts that are generally pretty low-stress compared to sports bras, but flatten things into a more masculine silhouette.
The women in my family all have small breasts - nothing much larger than an A cup. I'm not really surprised that after a year on HRT my breasts are still very small. Adding progesterone helped a lot, but they are only just starting to take shape. Some develop fast, others a lot slower. Hopefully i can a least get an A cup lol.
I am used to sleeping on my stomach and I am worried about it hindering breast growth. Is it just a myth or do I need to adjust my self to sleep on my side in order not to end up with small boobs >_<
Laurelin : It's a myth... but you probably will find that sleeping on them isn't happening anyway. :) It was a couple years before I didn't wake up, yelping, when I rolled onto my stomach.

The tank I have does not exerce a huuuuge compression, but it is enough to flatten my chest almost entirely...I am really in need of wearing them now, so every time I get out home I must wear something to hide my breasts...I hope this level of compression is not harmful. A normal bra is quite ineffective to flatten, just to hold them in place...a compression tank may be dangerous...what a situation lol
This is an interesting thread. And it seems that there are some conclusions that can be drawn after reading the replies from this and other threads like this one.
The time it takes for your breasts to start growing seems to depend on:
- The amount of Estrogen you take
- The age of the posters
- Genetics
It appears that there also is a slight placebo-effect from starting HRT in many cases. This is most likely due to the thrill of finally being on your way.
So in conclusion it seems that there are no surprises with the results and that everyone will get results, sooner or later.
The amount of estrogen you take only matters up to a point. A body can only absorb so much. A small dose will likely cause slower growth than an average dose. Once the hormone receptors are active they are active. They do not become hyper active.
Age seems to have little if anything to do with breast development from what I have seen, although it used to be what people said and old info dies hard. Age does give testosterone more time to do its work, and much of what T does is unreversable with HRT alone.
There is some debate over placebo. The first effects people tend to report have to do with feeling calm and less anxious, this may be a placebo or it may be the catharsis of starting HRT finally. That said, estrogen hits the brain with surprising speed, depending on how it is administered.
Breast development, and nipple development are frequently the first noticeable physical changes caused by estrogen and it is not uncommon for things to start within a week or month. This is not placebo. But it can take much longer for some.

so are they going to hurt? xD I am only at 1 month hrt here and still no pain. It is weird but I would be thrilled if they started hurting like others have described :)

I can't imagine it having any effect on breast growth. What I can picture however is back problems starting to pop up. Depending on how much growth you get you may end up changing the angle of your spine when you sleep.
Laurelin : Well, everyone's different, but yeah, hurting seems to be a pretty common theme. I'm glad you're not dreading it, considering. :)
(I actually never had pain to the level some people describe; I'd say it was more of a dull ache when poked directly, usually.)
Allison : That's another excellent point!
They don't hurt the way they did when first growth appeared.
Now, it's an all-day-long itch or chafing, depending on whether I am wearing a bra or not.
I went from A cup moobs to a C cup in 6 weeks. I was surprised by the quickness at which it happened. However, they hurt like crazy that whole time. ;D
Two months here.
I got aches in my breasts 2 days after my first injection, and itching, and the breast tissue began to form pretty much immediately. None of these things has let up since and though I still haven't figures what constitutes a cup size, I've gone from a 4cm gap between under and over to a 12cm gap. There have been a whole load of other changes in skin, hair growth and other things, and I'm glad with how things work out.
I'd heard that older people didn't get a lot of change with HRT and as I'm in my mid 40s I wasn't expecting much. It is a real YMMV thing.

This I did not know and it sounds hopeful. I am finally at full dose... change has been slow. They don't hurt much anymore, but sometimes I feel it. This post gives me a little more hope about it, I am still an A one side and the other is middle A to B.
I've been on hrt for 4-5 months, E patches, spiro & fin. Mine nipples get real hot & sensitive some days, itch like crazy, then they go quiet for a while???? I might be a B cup but still not very large at all. I'm hopeful for nice size breasts, genetics look good for me I hope.
I just noticed my breasts coming in last night, so it was 24 days on HRT until I got my first sign of them. I haven't had any experience with them hurting, more of a dull pain that I could feel but was tolerable.
ill be starting hrt next week so, im hoping mine grow when I begin it, I heard it could take years but I guess it depends on age and body also. im unsure though but Im hoping only for B cup size breasts I really don't want anything bigger than that.
I played with my nipples a lot when I started HRT because I was anticipating some type of pain or something lol. After about 3 weeks in, I felt slight tingles of like tiny jolts of pain when i pressed really hard on the nipples. My left nipple got a bud 1 month in and my right one followed suit 1.5 months in. I am now at the stage where they are numb and hurt pretty bad if I randomly press on them after leaving them alone all day haha. If I look at my profile, they jet out like little cones in Tanner II stage but front view, they just look like swelled up pecs lol. But I know they aren't because I never had pecs and when I lift the cup area at the bottom, a form some cleavage or whatever lol. I'm 2.5 months in btw. I'm still early in the transition so I still have lots of growth to go I hope.
I had soreness and buds behind my nipples after 7 weeks of gel and fin. I'm about 11 weeks in now and the buds have grown in thickness and diameter, and a little more mass around the areoles. Breasts do not hurt unless they are somehow bumped, then you know things are underway. I'm not even an A cup, but there is definitely growth going on! I'm 61, btw. Body hair is very slow to grow back after waxing, too!
My breasts are tingly and tender

Sorry if I've missed any earlier post by you here. How long have you been on HRT?
4 months in now and still not even an A cup...in fact the last few weeks it feels like nothing at all is happening though :S
No more pain, no more swelling or budding, not even any itching 0.o
I'm wondering if I should try out some progesterone to see if it will help my situation, how long do you reckon you should wait through a lack of activity before you decide to try something new?
Wearing a breastform is the last really "fake" thing I do with my presentation...I want to get rid of it as quickly as possible!
I started on a half dose of Estradiol, with no spiro, about 50 days ago. I have no noticeable changes at all. Zero breast development, no tenderness or buds or anything.
My breasts are standing still too...not bigger, sometimes they even seem to be smaller.
I think they indeed get bigger when I am on progesterone...but this is very controverse. Progesterone makes my facial hair come bcak growing like a weed too...but indeed I could notice my breasts got rounder and fuller.
Now I'm pretty much the same thing...let's see next week when I'm back to progesterone again.
