Title: Hair removal scotland
Post by: chrissydr on February 25, 2014, 03:55:28 AM
I just had an appt with my psych in sandyford and have been granted the funding for hair removal and I was wondering if anybody knew of a good transgender hair removal bit in or around Glasgow. To be fair I would probably drive anywhere to deal with this problem.

about face in st enoch square is where most people i know went.  there's also a laser place in pollokshaws, but the funding won't cover them.  the laser clinic is parkside private clinic,  ive used them in the past, they were about 20% of the prices in city centre.  and an appointment once a month was comparable with my monthly mobile phone bill...

hope that helps a bit :)

Can I have a question girls? I've applied for funding of couple of things I need help with, and my question is... Once the funding has been granted, do you choose where you go, hand NHS the receipt for the service you have received and they give you a refund, or they choose the service-provider so to speak, for you? Thank You, x

Might I enquire at what point in the system are we able to apply for funding from the NHS?

They have restructured the pathway in Tayside so noone seems to know what is going on.
I've been left in the dark by the NHS who flatly refuse to give me an estimate on when my next appointment with the Psychologist will be.
The receptionist keeps telling me that, rather than a waiting list, appointment times are being decided by the psychologist in relation to how urgent that "they" feel the need is. So hypothetically I may be left waiting forever :(

I can't wait until I get to Sandyford for laser or hrt, the waiting list is currently 14 months and I don't believe they will even put me on the list until I have my next appointment (and I'm left with no idea when that will be).

I have my first appointment for laser on Tuesday.

Good luck Falconer.

I think the time of applying for funding from the NHS depends on what kind of service you request, my therapist told me that for example I can't apply for breast augmentation until I'm 6 months with them

I actually got funding pretty quickly. It was at my second appt withh Dr Gerber, that I got it. He said it was unusual, to get before hormones, but due to my problamatic hormones and stuff, I have had to wait longer than normal for them. My First appt with him, he applied for my funding. Said it takes a while to get approved so best to start the ball rolling as soon as.

They ended up sending me to about face in glasgow, anyways. That was the place that they have been using for this stuff. Been great as they are just a wonderful group of ladies that are perfect

Been a bit busy with some family things, so not around much.

I'm curious if anyone has further comments on the Parkside Private Clinic in Pollokshaws? I have been considering gong there for a while now, so if anyone can say if they offer a decent service for the price (and roughly kind of price to expect), please please let me know. I will call them in the near future, but I would like some prior knowledge before the high pressure sales pitch that will likely ensue.

I don't know about the clinic you mentioned, but the majority of my hair removal was done in Skn clinic just by central station.  I tried a couple of other places first, but the equipment used didn't seem up to the job, but the Lasers in Skn used basically got rid of all of my dark stuff.  I am just getting the light hairs finished which the lasers don't touch.  Skn clinic don't give a 'high pressure sales pitch', just tell you as it is and are really professional.

Kim, what tier treatment did you get when you were there? Anything short of the tier 8 full face doesn't seem right for someone in transition, but at £245 a treatment, there is no way I could afford that every month.

Quicky update on this one, off the phone with Sk:n, got my first appointment/possible session booked on the 14th. Lets hope the lasering is as quick and painless as making the deposit!
