about doing something to stop shark-week because the dysphoria that sets off has been steadily getting worse. I got an email from him today that basically said, "So, this transgender-thing isn't something I'll deal with, so I've referred you to the local sexological clinic".
I'm kinda excited cause that means that maybe something might actually get done, except that I'm pretty sure that the only place they can legally refer me is in the capitol, because the laws here are antiquated. The clinic he's referred me to, isn't that place.
So I figure, maybe the rules have changed, and I go to check out the clinic's website, and to my surprise, on the front page is says very clearly that they do not treat/talk to/deal with transgendered people, as the law says all gender issues have to go to the clinic in the capitol.
Under a layer of crushing disappointment, I'm also really frustrated with my GP. It took me less than 5 mins to determine that that clinic that he's referred me to can't legally help me at all. He couldn't even look up their website before writing a referral? The information was on their front page. They only deal with people that have been molested or raped, and have developed substance abuse problems as a result. That is literally their entire mandate. None of that is true for me, either.
Right, so after an afternoon of email-tag with the GP, he just replied, "Well, maybe they don't work with transpeople either, but I'm going to refer you there anyway."
I'm just really frustrated.
Do you have the option to elect another GP? That is what I would do as your current one gives me the impression he does not take you seriously and just wants you to go somewhere, anywhere, but where he is. Is their any GLBT groups in your area who could help you find one?
Well, it's possible, if a bit difficult. I'll have to look into it, but it looks like most of the other GP's in easy driving distance aren't accepting new patients, and there seems to be a fee and a ton of paperwork involved.
Edit: There aren't any GLBT groups near by, the last one seems to have dissolved about five years ago. I'm going to write to the national group anyway, maybe they can help me out. Good Idea, Jessica, thanks.
