kind of confused what zoladex does . I looked it up on the web and it seems to inhibit production of estrogen and testosterone . I don't know if that exactly what it does though

It's a gondotrophin analogue,  it basically lowers the production of follicle stimulating hormone (fsh)  and lutimising hormone (lh).  Both of these hormones are responsible for the production of the primary Sex hormones in the gonadal tissue i.e.  Testosterone in males and oestrogen  in females.

It's given in a implant for, and in m2fs in the UK it is the primary anti androgen method prescribed.  It basically gives a chemical ochi,  hormone wise anyway!

Hey Jebee,  I've only been on Zoladex for just over a year I didnt know any one was on it for 11 years!

That is what I took too (before the orchi). I don't remember ever hearing of Zoladex until now. I may have come across it when I was researching HRT meds (and forgot about it) before I started all of this, but that was a long time ago.

Yep same job as Spironolactone.  Although Zoladex is much more efficient,  and doesn't give the negatives such as the diuretic/ anti hypertensive effects that Spironolactone does.

Yep the same :D love Zoladex,  although the needle for the implant freaks me out.  It's too damn big!

Another vote for the scariness of the needle, it looks more like something you would knit with than anything that should ever be prodded into someone. My GP has said there is another brand with a less intimidating needle but, being me, I have forgotten what it is called. It is probably unfamiliar outside the UK due to the cost - around 500 of our British pounds for a three month implant.

And to the OP, I am only part way through my third implant so you may be the expert on this subject.

Apparently you can get a gnrh like zoladex (goserelin) as a nasal spray.

I also hear that you can wean off it leaving T levels what they are now, but that's a while off my research schedule. It could be something that you can look into though.

If you are in the UK, which I assume you are if you are on goserelin (zoladex) then my GIC consultant informed me on my last visit both goserelin and Buserelin are considered options, so you could, if you hate the needles, ask for this:

Buserelin - brand name: Suprecur. Its a nasal spray. The recommended dosage is two sprays into each nostril every 8 hours (3 times a day).

But obviously that doesn't avoid any long term effects that the OP was about.

Ok I just found this and i have a few questions about zoladex. My Gyne offered it to me in lue of spiro.

1: how long after fist injection did you notice a change in testosterone levels?

2: how long before the levels botomed out?

i think thats it for now lol

According to the packaging there is the chance of a testosterone spike lasting up to 10 days before it works its magic. For me this wasn't apparent due to <stuff> and for someone else I know the spike only lasted 2 days. There are no spikes on subsequent implants as the gonads have been rendered inoperable. It is expensive at £500 for a 3 month implant but it is marvellously effective.

Levels on gnrh like this should be about 0.3 pgpm I think. It's about as clean and as low as you can get with current medicine I am told.  Much better but more expensive than spiro.

So, is there a danger for being on it for an extended period of time other than major shrinkage of the relevant components reconstructed during SRS ?

And yes, Zoladex rocks.
