Title: i dont even know
Post by: Jasmine96 on March 05, 2014, 10:58:19 PM
lately ive been pondering some of lifes greatest questions and one that is bugging and depressing me is what is life about? what is it that we all live for? i believe everyone has a different answer, but i cannot think of one that fits for me. what is it do you believe life is about?

another problem i have is that ive lost all hope in humanity. i look at the things we do and everything is done for our survival, steping over the little people, crushing anything that stands in our way, but now it seems that we stand in our way more than ever before. now to solve these issues we must come together and i dont think we can. now we point the finger blaming eachother like that guy from the 700 club blaming 9/11 on women and the gay. i know that there are a lot of good people in the world, but ignorance, hate, and greed choke the good from the world. are we too far gone to recover our ‟humanity‟? please give opinions, any at all.

"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." ~ Mahatma Gandhi.

That's pretty much what I subscribe to.

It often seems the world is going the wrong direction. Maybe it's just my perception. We certainly never seem to learn from the past. I hope one day we'll all just learn to live and let live. Why are we here? No idea, but it's fun to ponder.  :)

Stop the terrane!   I want to get off.

You may be right.  Humanity just might be going down the tubes.  The world really sucks sometimes.  People really suck sometimes.  Insanity seems to be the norm.  Hatred and bigotry and envy are socially acceptable.

So I try, in my own way, to make things better, one day at a time, one act of kindness at a time.  If you are lucky, someone will be kind in return.

That's just me though.  "You see, you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself."

Honestly, as an existentialist, I believe it's up to the individual to define what their life means and the meaning of existence is for themselves.  While I do understand there is a lot of hate and bigotry in the world, there is also a lot of beauty in it too.  I can't say I have an answer to the meaning of life, but for me it's important to strive for a world that is more empathetic and compassionate to one another.  A world where everyone can be happy, healthy and live in peace.  Sadly, that seems to be a more utopian concept as that really doesn't exist, but that's what I strive for in my heart and the world that I'd like to see.  I think understanding the individual plight of other people and learning from each other is something we should all strive for.  It may not give us the answers or solve all of our problems, but at the very least it can reduce hate and conflict to a degree.  That's a step in the right direction, imo.

As for my own individual life, I guess I just want to be happy in my own life and see others happy as well.  Corny, I know, but that is how I feel.  I don't like seeing other people suffer or struggle.  So, in my own limited way, I try to have a positive impact on others and increasingly try to better myself as I go on.  Yes, I fail and have to work tirelessly to improve as a person, but it's worth it in the end.

I think one's purpose in life is whatever that person decides it is. I don't believe the world has a goal or a purpose for all of us. We each have to find our own.

I want the world to be a better place when I leave it than when I got here because of things I've done.

As for hope in humanity, remember your view of the world is skewed by the route information takes when it gets to you. Some media organization or perhaps someone sharing a facebook post or tweet has decided you should see whatever you learn about the world. This results in a skewed viewpoint.

If you want to see the true state of the world yourself, turn off your TV and your computer (except to post here, of course  :) ) and go out and meet people and get involved in your community.

For example, I've been reading and hearing about how awful government is and how corrupt politicians are. I just went to my state capital and listened to them discuss a transgender rights bill they want to pass. These were conscientious people, trying to figure out what is the right thing to do. I met and reconnected with a lot of wonderful people.

This is what restores MY hope in humanity.
