Title: Has anyone gone BACK to wigs?
Post by: BlindSeeress on March 12, 2014, 03:11:34 PM
I came out a few years ago. Like most of the men in my family in my early 30s I very quickly developed a rather pronounced widow's peak with big bald patches to either side. I grew my hair out (after an initial stage of glamorous but convincing wigs) and rather long, but the hair that I had grown out over several years was never very good quality anyway - as a blonde, my hair has always been more feather like and stringy than mane-like and luxurious, no matter how many products I pump into it - but with the loss of hair on my temples (aggravated by wearing a visor cap at my minimum wage stay-afloat job) - I never had the hair I wanted. Stylists couldn't do anything with the front of my hair because of the bald temples, and I couldn't pull off long styles very well because with my hair down the bald spots showed up.

Finally, after years of wrestling with it, I stumbled across an alopecia-related website and discovered that lots of cis-women have thin or patchy hair, especially in the front, and opt to buy glamorous wigs as opposed to feeling bad about their natural hair forever. This made me consider going  back to wigs myself. I cant afford transplants, but the wigs I used to buy were totally affordable.

Has anyone else considered or done something similar?

Nothing wrong with using them, they are IN now. I know two cis girls who even double wig for a really glamorous look. I will use them until mine grows out to where I want it. The quality today is just incredible, so go for it. The only important thing is that YOU feel good about yourself and like how you look. :)

The balding issue has me really depressed.  Hopefully the endocrinologist I see tomorrow will adress this.

If I HAD the ability to grow my hair long and thickly (blondy here), I would start the transitioning process YESTERDAY.

If there were a wig product on the market that would stay put (even if I were to run my fingers through it in public) and had an invisible hairline (and no straps and pins) I would get it!

I can't tell how badly I want to break out of this shell.

Honey, the number of cisgendered females I see heading into the wig store next to the chinese restaurant in town is mind-blowing :)

I have to wear wigs. At first it was just terrible however there was no way my hair would ever become thick enough to look very feminine. The good part of wigs is that you can change with your emotions. If working maybe a short wig & if going out longer, etc. & different colors. So it's not terrible.

I think we can all agree that wigs allow you to express your emotions.  My problem is that they are ever present.  You are limited to what you can do with them, and what you can do while wearing them.  Unless, of course, you don't mind a tap on your shoulder and a voice saying "sir....I believe you dropped something.   ::)

A piece of wig tape takes care of the wig falling off fear  :)

Some wigs have a cap with combs that help with keeping a wig in place. Really cheap wigs usually don't have combs.

I have even worn my wig in extremely windy conditions and haven't lost one yet.

Can you play with the hair on your wig in public?  Does it have a band/strap around it?
