SEEKING VOLUNTEERS: Research & Monitor Reported Violent Incidents Against Transgender People
Transgender Violence Tracking Portal seeks volunteers to support validating, researching and monitoring of reported incidents of violence against transgender people across the world. A unique global project, enlisting worldwide participation to vastly improve documented knowledge of violence that is targeting the transgender community. Many assaults, murders, missing persons, and suicides are unreported, misreported, not investigated and "erased". The TVTP project will add data to support law enforcement, research and education worldwide.

Position Title: INCIDENT RESEARCHER
Status: Volunteer

Description of Duties:
1. Accept assigned "Reported Incident of Violence". (Researcher's may turn down incidents that appear problematic for any reason)
2. Assume full management of individual "incidents" as initially collected by TVTP from its sources.
a. Review the reported incident (details, sources, inconsistent /missing information, etc.)
b. Research the incident for data for additional sources (publicity, reports, blogs, data banks, police records, court records, etc.)
c. Carefully document nature of data obtained (sources, reliability, dates, URLs, etc.)
d. Periodically (usually weekly) research for new reports and update TVTP
3. Enter findings in the TVTP Website
4. Report to TVTP administrators on barriers or problems
5. Report to TVTP administrators any urgent/major findings
Estimated Time Requirement:
Minimum: 2 hrs or more per week. Incident Researchers may carry more than one incident (case).
Cases cannot be more than a few days out of date at any point. The success of TVTP depends on our reputation of accurate and timely information.
Requirements:
1. Understanding of and dedication to the mission of TVTP
2. Work is performed by the Incident Researcher on own time using own equipment
3. Good internet research skills
4. Basic computer skills: text; spreadsheets at a minimum, Google research tools, cut and paste.
5. Understanding and ability to use basic investigative skills
6. Excellent ability to document sources accurately - distinguishing between "hard" data, "soft" data, educated assumptions, speculation and unfounded claims.
7. A certain talent for investigation and recording - a 'stick-to-it-ism'
8. Ability to work independently and focus on the responsibilities without constant supervision
9. Consistent reporting to TVTP web interface
10. Good judgment on consulting with TVTP administrators for case related or personal concerns
Other considerations:
1. Emotional ability to review, research and report on horrific events. Violence against transgender persons is often extreme and gruesome. Those who are themselves victims of violence or sensitive to accounts of extreme violence are welcome to contribute to the project in other ways.
2. Ability to recognize your individual limitations and consult with TVTP administrators promptly in the event a case becomes overwhelming of you begin to lose clear perspective.
3. Ability to detach from overt and/or dominating private agendas; resistance to exaggeration and emotional "spin".
