From a teenage guide to Self-Esteem http://www.pamf.org/teen/life/depression/selfesteem.html
QuoteA Positive Image: Self-esteem
"Self" -- That's easy. That's you!
"Esteem" -- This word is a bit trickier. It is not a word that most teens use on a daily basis. Not even a weekly basis. The dictionary, defines the word as "to hold in high regard" which means "to really like a lot." For example, you really like your best friend, you really like your favorite teacher, or you really like your parents. You get the picture. These are people you trust, respect and enjoy spending time with.

What is self-esteem?
Self-esteem means you really like yourself, both inside and out. It refers both to how you look and what you believe in. This is also called "positive" or "high" self-esteem.
Sometimes it's easy to like who you are. You feel great when you pass a test, score a winning touchdown, or tell a funny joke that everyone laughs at. But how do you feel about yourself when you just said something stupid or fumbled the football? You sometimes feel dumb or left out of the action. You start wishing you were someone else or that you could change how you look. You think you aren't good in school, on the team or part of the cool crowd. This is "low" or "negative" self-esteem.
We sometimes let others tell us how to feel about yourself. From the day you were born, your parents, and later your teachers and friends, have been influencing your decisions. TV shows and music videos tell you what to wear and how to look. Music and magazines tell you how to feel and how to act.The good news is you can learn to like yourself or have positive self-esteem. You are the one in control; you can make the difference.
My self-esteem flings around like sweat on a shot-putters cleavage. Sometimes is soars and sometimes it (and me) have to hide somewhere. It's been a lot lower for the past year and a half, but that is because the life I am currently leading, that'll all change next month.
Mine is very up and down and it does not take much for it to be knocked by others and myself. on a good day im full of it and really flying but on a bad day its through the floor and has a big effect on how i am. a lot depends on how i feel and look and am actting. if i feel that im not being the real me then i feel that it effects my self esteem. having people exept me for who i am makes a massive difference to me.

ROFLMAO!!! The visual this brings it just too much to consider. Great one, Pica!!
I am generally a positive person and feel good about myself and my life. There are those occassions (like everyone) when I feel a bit down, but it usually doesn't last more than an evening and they don't happen that often.

Oh I shift like day and night which is something I assume fairly natural. After all, I do appear rather confident so I get to keep all of that to myself. 8)

As a general rule? I hate myself.
Up & Down.
Mostly up.
Occasional down if I feel I hurt somebody else.
I guess you can tell by my cruel picture that I do on occasion hat myself. giggle.
my self esteem has gone down for laughing at that joke
It could be worse. Mostly not too bad, guess I'll answer up and down since it's often subjective to the situation. I do tend to be hard on myself sometimes.
