Title: finally have first T appointment with doctor!
Post by: Ryan55 on March 25, 2014, 12:49:08 PM
so after a few months with the therapist and finally getting papers sent over from old doctor, I finally have an appt may 19th for my first I guess consultation appt to start T. I'm pretty excited and nervous, feels far away but I know it will come up soon. I'm assuming this appointment is mostly talking about T and blood work and making sure I'm healthy? The doctor I am going to works with transgender patients so she gets it and it was nice when her receptionist asked what my preferred name was lol

Might I suggest not eating ten hours or so before the appointment? You may or may not get blood drawn on the spot, but I probably could have gotten my blood drawn that day if I hadn't eaten. Had to go back in the next morning...bright and early. ;D

Congrats, mate!  I would assume that she will probably talk to you about the risks and benefits of T and what to expect - whether or not you have your bloodwork on that day is anyone's guess, but I agree re: not eating...you never know!

Woohoo! Grats!  ;D

Yes, it probably is just to discuss the pros & cons, get you to sign the paperwork, and to do any tests. I agree that you shouldn't eat in advance because some of the tests are fasting tests.

If you like, you could speed things up by phoning them and asking whether there's any preparation or bloodwork you could do in advance. I did my blood tests through my regular doctor three weeks before my appointment and I took my results with me; that shaved a couple of weeks off the time I had to wait for my first prescription.

Giving that boat a bit of a push through quicksand! Every now and then we manage to push it a little bit further, and with every push brings new hope!

Great news!!! :D
