When I first put on a wig .. I thought no no no no ...... much too thick .. too much hair .. so fake ....
this was obviously because I hardly had any hair of my own for so many years .. it was a big shock to have a full head ..
I've got natural grey hair (old man) so I've decided to stick with this colour, and my first wig was off ebay for about £25 (one of the Chinese ones) .. It was short and hardly any hair at all looking at it today .. but I thought it was too thick ..
Reading on the web that wigs have to be styled at a hairdressers to suit your face,I thought this must be the problem with it..
So I don't know how.. but somehow I plucked up the courage to go to a womans hairdressers ..
I firstly explained the situation to the lady over the phone checked she was ok with it and arranged a time when they where not busy.. I asked her to thin it out for me.. I could see she had a problem with it because there was hardly any hair to thin out .. I think I was looking for something similar to my own head of hair .. just scared I think ..
I wore that wig for about a month .. took lots and lots of photos .. looking at the photos now it looks like a man wearing a wig.. nothing female about it ..
I was now comfortable wearing it in front of the family .. so I progressed to my next one a proper female wig .. 'Sky' by Noriko
Once I decided to wear wigs full time.. (My own hair was never going to do ) I shaved all my hair off.. why keep it.. also being bald made it much easier for the wigs .. one of the weirdest and best decisions I've ever made ..
I tried plenty of ideas how to keep the wig secure and once I worked out how to apply tape properly ..(fabric type sticking plaster stuck to tape sewn in strips around the cap .. secured to my bald head with double sided tape ..) it felt completly secure part of me.. much much better..
Does it look fake ? .. I think don't try to fool people.. If they can tell it's wig then.. I'm wearing a wig.. If they can't then it's not .. .. anyway on a woman it's a fashion thing .. It really dosen't bother me .. I think it looks great .. it's part of me now.. that's all that matters ...... yes??
Well I wear a wig, it's made from micro fibre (Henry Margu) and as far as I can tell looks and feels very natural/real. I know what you mean about it feeling like too much hair, even when I had long hair during my first attempt at transition it never felt as thick and plentiful as the one I have now. Sometimes I feel annoyed by having to wear it everyday but I couldn't pass without it so it stays on every second that I am out of my home. At first I thought it would be hideously hot during our hot and humid Sydney summers until I realised it was effectively no different than a head full of hair anyway. The wig breathes, or allows my scalp to, so that's good. I'm getting a back-up wig and a couple of other Margu styles in the same colour for when I want to look a bit different. Everyone tells me the colour really suits my skin - like everyone - despite my natural colour being closer to mousey brown.
