Hey all, I have a couple questions for guys who get their T in (or near) Texas.
The only clinic I know about that uses the informed consent model is Legacy Community Health in Houston. I'd love to hear about experiences y'all have had with them, either currently or in the past. And, because Houston isn't exactly the closest place to travel to, I'd love to hear about other providers or clinics in Texas who use the informed consent model for HRT.
Thanks for any info you can share, either in the thread or privately. Will update with my own experiences when I've gone through the process myself.
My GP does informed consent. I think a lot of them do, they just don't advertise for fear of losing their possibly narrow minded non-trans patients. I do know that our local trans group has a list that has to be kept private (only available to be viewed in person at meetings, but info can be copied from the book) with no public access to the list or the doctor will stop treating trans patients. It might be possible that a support group close to you also has a list. I have a name of a nurse practitioner that can do HRT and monitor blood levels on an informed consent basis but he is in San Antonio so I'm not sure if that helps you. Feel free to send me a PM if you'd like his info.

Thanks, Sebryn! All that makes perfect sense & is encouraging to hear.
I've gotten in touch with the one local support group that I could find, but I'm still waiting to hear back from 'em on their private listserv. It doesn't look like I can send PMs yet, since my account is new. If you can send
me a PM, I'd love to get his info and possibly to chat further. I'm in Austin, so San Antonio is right up my alley.
You wouldn't be able to reply to my PM yet without posting more. Congratulating guys on starting T or surgery is a good way to get posts.
Actually I heard that Austin has more trans resources/trans friendly doctors than we do down here. Check and see when the group has their meeting maybe? Not sure how the one up there operates but ours meets twice a month and has the info on when and where on their site. I'm pretty sure they'll probably insist you attend one meeting to see the list in person but I could be wrong since all groups are a bit different. The group down here is San Antonio Gender Association (SAGA).
Who is the nurse practitioner here in San Antonio ? I want to start transitioning by informed consent but have no idea where to go I'd like the help thanks!
Any info in SA?
Hey all--I've been offline since having top (and hip/flank contouring) surgery last December with Doc Peter Raphael in Plano. Have been healing very nicely, and am just checking back in to see how everyone's doing. I've been on moderate dose cream T for over 2 years, and now after successful top surgery healing very well....am meeting with two referrals for HRT this week in Dallas to step things up a bit. These two docs were referrals from my surgeon.
I'll keep you posted on what I find out if anyone is interested. 8)

Hi, I live in San Antonio and I've been looking for a medical professional to do HRT on an informed consent basis. If you could send me his information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you -Grey
Is it really that hard to find a therapist that'll write you a letter? Mine gave me mine in two trips. All I had to do was take an easy psych evaluation test. Sure informed consent is nice, but this is Texas we live in. I think you'd have more options if you went the more traditional route.
I have yet to find a doctor in Houston that does the informed consent route. like the poster above me, I got my letter in 3 visits and was on T by the 4th visit. If you live in Houston I can recommend a therapist and endo thats no hassle but it won't be informed consent....PM me for details
Google Transgender Central Texas. There is a list available. It doesn't list by "informed Consent" but does have info on several trans-friendly sources for therapy and medical care. I found my therapist that way.

Could you PM me the physician also? Thanks

I live in San Antonio, and have been going to Nurse Practitioner Associates for my HRT. Not exactly cheap, but I got my script at my first appointment.
