Title: how fast do things normally move?
Post by: Riley Desgagne on March 30, 2014, 08:55:17 PM
i don't know... I'm still living with my parents and am still in high school (i know I'm not supposed to show age but i feel i need to for point of this post. ) and i was looking some where and i noticed a lot of MtF transexuals jump on HRT way faster than i have been told by my parents people do. i first came out to them in 2012 and they are saying its normal for me to wait till I'm in or past collage. and i would like to know how quickly some of you started HRT.

Where I am you can start at 18 when you are a legal adult. I believe personally they are telling you that in the hopes a delay will change your mind about it. Only my opinion though. :)

it depends I agree with Jessica that you can at 18 since you will be legally an adult, but I wouldn't rush it, im 32 right now but I waited so I can research more about it so I know what im getting myself into and also to make sure that I am what I am which I know I am since I was diagnosed with it from my therapist. I think if u really feel like how u feel, seeing a therapist that specializes in it would be a good idea, im not on hormones yet but everything takes time.

Hi Riley,
How quickly or slowly we follow the path to authenticity is uniquely personal and individual.  If your parents will support it, you can begin talking to a counselor and getting started now.  The transition works better the younger you are from a strictly physical standpoint, but that ought not be your biggest motivator.  How well you relate to yourself is so very important.  Do you really understand what this path entails?  That is I think what your parents concerns are.  That is what mine would be if I were them.  Getting as much input and professional guidance as you can first is my suggestion, and then with as much knowledge as you can collect, make your decision without regret or hesitation.  Good Luck and Blessings,
Julie
