Title: A website I found that is good for people switching to a female wardrobe!
Post by: BlossomRevane on April 02, 2014, 06:33:09 PM
I found this site very inexpensive and thought I would share! I am not quite sure on the quality as I haven't ordered yet but I will be. The reason I am posting it is because the prices are cheap and that means you get to experiment with versatility without breaking the bank. I think that it would be good for people like myself and others that are swapping the old boyish wardrobe out =)

I recently shoped online at Asos.com for a more androgenous wardrobe (free shipping in Oz, which I took advantage of) and they have lots of cool fem clothes for cheap, depending on your style. I'm finding female clothes are cheaper and more diverse than male clothing, which is strange. They're not 'girly-girly' so if that's your style you may not find much, but it fits the urban/semi-punk/hipster look, which is in at the moment (locally anyway).

Thrift stores are great. They have tons of very nice items at very low prices. You can try on everything to make sure it fits. Most clerks are nice & will help you if you want or they will not bother you. Sometimes you can find a $150 designer dress for maybe $8. However you have to shop slow to find the right items.

Oh yes I do love the thrift store lately I just cant find anything worth buying at my local stores though. But I just give it some time and its good to go again! The main thing that drew me to this site though is the shoes which I never find at my thrift store =(

Hey Nattie I just went to that site they really have a lot of stuff that I like =) Androgyny is pretty much my current look though and not so much one that I want. But that site does seem worth my time! Thanks for the info =)

No problem, I'm shopping andro atm because I need to make the transition easy on people around me (and also want to go stealth for quite some time). Plus, andro is a huge shift for me, I was very much a lumberjack in my style, ultra masculine, so andro will shock people enough for the moment haha.

I just wish there was something that would make me try on every dress, blouse & or pair of shoes at my local Goodwill store before buying them. I seem to see the size & grab it, throw into the cart, then at home it just does not fit right, yuck, yuck, yuck.

Today I ordered the following item at http://www.rosewholesale.com/

Those dresses are very cheap and the international delivery fare is as low as US$ 5.
This is the  nearly same as most internet stores in my country (S. Korea).

Interesting, I just looked thru this site and it looks like the same stuff as the sammydress link above. Even the site and sizing and "add to bag" is the same. It is like a clone site. I wonder if the shipping is cheaper? I am going to make a clone order and see what the shipping and total cost comes to. Maybe there is some different things in rosewholesale but so far it seems identical to sammydress. Thanks for the link BTW and that outfit is Hot!  :D

I ordered another one. As most items are sold out, I selected a black XL.

Thanks for bumping this.  The lack of different sizes is frustrating, but can't argue with those prices.  I was just shopping on Amazon tonight and bemoaning the fact that everything is cheap on Amazon except clothes.

Yuck. Couldn't find anything that I liked. But I am ultra picky and I like to dress really plain. Yeah, the prices are very cheap but I'll stick with my usual mailorder vendors. But it would be cool for people that aren't as picky and bland as I am.  :D

I have yet to go wrong with ASOS and they have an excellent return policy so I stick with them. I worry about sammydress and other sites in that family only because in the past what I've received was a lot different than what I ordered. It really is a gamble in my opinion. Best of luck though.

I'm liking the look of Asos. I don't think they're a drop shipper like Sammydress. Their prices may be a higher, but they're reasonable and show some nice stuff. Also, they make a big deal about their "ethical trade", being "carbon neutral", "positive body image" and "sustainable fashion". OK, that last one sounds like a bit of a stretch, but it's nice they're trying.

Girls;
For those of us that are Size 18 (Australian) upwards. I am size 22. I would highly recommend Dream Diva. You will find them on line at www.dreamdiva.com.au Apparently they do about 80% of their business on line. Their clothes are fabulous. Not frumpy and cut and designed for the bigger woman, with many dresses and skirts with nicely above the knee hems. Their miniskirts and shorts are great!

Careful girls!!

Found this thread earlier and starting looking around at all the sites provided. For sammydress and rosewholesale the prices were indeed ridiculous, so much that more research was in order. And that's how I discovered these two sites are borderline scams.

First thing to look at is the facebook pages. I went through several of the facebook comments for rosewholesale and several of them where people who had heard nothing of their orders after months, or only received part of it, or obtained ridiculously small sizes even by asian standards.
One individual in particular was posting warning comments in nearly every post from this company.

Naturally I was concerned that maybe it's just a case of disgruntled people being the ones to complain, people ordering the wrong sizes, people expecting international packages faster than they should ... but instead, every site I visited led to more and more horror stories.
Sitejabber reviews of the site are for the most part awful, with some solid ones in between that tend to have poor english and lead me to think they were more likely to be from PR representatives of the company.
There's a bunch of youtube reviews of both sammydress and rosewholesale, and while there's a bunch of positive ones, they all name similar issues: sizes not being what was expected, shipping times going beyond normal to the point it takes MONTHS, things being of very poor and cheap material that breaks or falls apart easily, customer service ignoring complaint tickets, seethrough fabrics, sizes being extremely small, etc etc etc.

Bottom line is: yes, everything seems super cheap, but chances are that it is the case because of things being cheap knockoffs that attempt to barely resemble the images they provide.
From what I've seen online, there are some cases of people getting what they wanted, or a product that is not 100% as expected but still wearable/usable, but considering the huge shipping cost due to international shipping and the ridiculous and unreliable wait time, the whole experience seems like a gamble.

I truly hope that helps, I see a lot of you are really excited (I was too at first ... coats for less than $25? YES PLEASE) so I would hate for these sites to be fraudulent and disappoint people here.
In any case, I look forward to hearing from those of you that already ordered. Best of luck! :-\

I did receive my order from sammydress, it took about 3 weeks.  :-\ I will give a better review of each of the products here later. I can say that one of the items was way smaller than it should of been according to what I ordered. It was only $2 so I am not too worried. Another product did not even look like the pictured item, it was a cheap shirt but what I got was not the right item I think, again it was very cheap so I won't waste my time trying to have customer service fix it. Other than those 2 issues and the expensive shipping cost I do like all the other products I ordered. I am small so small/medium items fit fine. The quality seems okay, but we will see how they hold up after a few washes.

Love,
Jade

I wouldn't be surprised if both of those websites were selling direct from China merchandise. I ordered a few things from a website called AliExpress.com, which is direct from China merchandise. A friend had told me that I would need to watch my tracking in case items get hold up in customs. Also, they have free shipping options.

I've ordered several things from there and have been very pleased with the items I've received.
Note: most of the items you cannot return, so be very careful to check the sizing before you purchase!

Wow, amazing online stores. One word of warning, however: just check, if you can, what kind of colouring agent they use in their clothes, as lately there have been quite a few recalls regarding toxic colours being used in garments. Perhaps you could do an online search for the product line and safety warnings, etc.

Also, just to be a further killjoy, if the clothes are ridiculously cheap, then it's likely they were made under ridiculously unethical working conditions. Just sayin'.

Thanks, though.

Yes! a few things I got did not match the photos at all, blacks seemed bleached out, A pair of leggings already split at the crotch (might be because I have stuff that don't belong in there...) But The quality and what was pictured compared to what I got is bad. I used SammyDress. Some of the stuff is Ok, just OK tho, not impressed. I got better stuff for cheaper at a thrift store. Also the sizes at sammydress are all very small to tiny, so if you are big don't even bother. I think the rosewholsale is just a clone of sammydress, same items same prices, and the sites look the same just different name at the top.

I've found that online shopping for clothes has been a complete crap shoot. I have scored some gems but I've gotten a few lemons as well.

So I just go to the department stores and big box stores now. I even try on before I buy. Lots of success this way... Nobody has said a damn thing about me trying on women's clothes. Some stuff I don't have to try on, I just hold it against me and I know my sizes so I'm good. Be brave. You will get used to it and thank yourself for it. No shipping charge and no sales tax in NJ, and no sales tax below $75 for clothing in NYC.

It's a matter of preference really. I like shopping online because I've found good prices at particular times, like HauteLook events or amazon prime deals, and due to my work hours and the fact I don't have a car I don't exactly have the time or the stamina to do the conventional shopping around and walking around with packages.

Unless of course girl friends invite me to go with them, in which case I'm definitely game.

I buy a lot of things on eBay. You just have to be very careful to buy from the most reputable appearing sellers rather to simply shop by price. Also, study the item description and pic very carefully. EBay is a discount marketplace, which means it gets a whole lot of goods that are used, liquidated, damaged and otherwise undesirable. Still, the low overhead and competition on it means there are tons of good bargains, especially in clothing, which is one of the most competitive market segments.

I suppose you have a good point. I generally study the description when it comes to anything technology related, and I read the reviews. Otherwise I only read the reviews and purchase if I deem it good enough.

I'm terrible at online clothes shopping, but I do have taste.

It looks a pretty much the same to me. You are probably a bit taller than the model in the ad photo, though, so it's shorter on you. I think it looks good, but it might not be best for work or windy days.
