I am a gender-variant cisfemale, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis five years ago. According to the research I've done, cismen deteriorate much more quickly than ciswomen with the disease, which leaves me wondering if this has something to do with their natural testosterone. I was considering transition several months ago, but turned down the idea partly because of this possibility.
Feedback? Anything you have would be welcome.
I know very little about MS but I have a multi-systemic chronic illness that left me unable to work (for the past 7 years). I delayed transitioning because I was worried how T would affect my functioning. So far, at almost 7 weeks, it's had a positive impact. I don't know down the road however. One thing I have worried about is how MD's who treat my illness would view me.
I do know someone who has a chronic illness (FTM) where T also had a positive impact but his wasn't multi-systemic.
I would suggest speaking to your neurophsiologist. I was warned that with my epilepsy (both treated on the neurophysiolgy ward in Australia) the hormones are going to alter my body chemistry so there is a risk of more seziures :(, (small dangerous price but oh so worth it :)). WE know all the medications we have to take and when. WE know what our physio schedule is. WE know our diets backwards and the consequenses for not sticking to them. Yes with Dr.Google there is more information out there and it is easier to find but THEY did go to medical school and have specialised so we should sort of trust them.
Good luck snicmhuilean, we only have one life to live so I hope it works out the best for you.
