Title: HRT in the SF Bay Area
Post by: nanjana on April 08, 2014, 09:24:54 PM
Hi all, I'm nanjana. I'm having a hard time finding a reliable and fast place/provider who can get me started on hormone replace therapy here in SF Bay Area.  :( Help please?

Doesn't really work like that, but you can start by contacting the SF Center or one of the other thousand or so LGBT resources available out here.

I haven't asked the main LGBT center for help yet so I'll go there. BUT I have gone to other LGBT centers in SF and they all referred me to free or low-cost health clinics. The SF health clinics can't give me HRT because I don't live in SF and there was this one health clinic that kept canceling at the last moment. Very annoying  >:(

Nobody will just give you hormones. You need a script and you need a therapist to get one. You can search for trans friendly private endo's. I know there are some in the bay area that will work with you if you can afford them.

Sigh, don't take it personally, I'm just not very good at help.

But you really need to see a gender therapist.

I see an endocrinologist whose office is in San Mateo, a little ways south of SF. PM me and I can give you his contact info.

But bear in mind that he's an endocrinologist. I don't know if he does "informed consent" HRT, because I first contacted him after I got my letter from my therapist. If you want her contact info, I can give you that too.

Yep informed consent is what you are looking for!

Tons of places in LA under informed consent so I'm sure SF is equally as good if not better :)

Best of luck and I hope you find the endocrinologist of your dreams!

Here are some you can try

Thank you! I just learned what "informed consent" means from you all! HRT is what I want. I know what I'm doing and what I want. To have someone else "check" that I really want to do HRT communicates to me that my judgment is questionable. I don't like that and I'm sick and tired of society/culture thinking like that. I know what I'm doing, what I'll be going through, what I want, and I'm willing to go through transition.

------------------------------------

TransVision has been great with the informed consent but the medical provider that they have set an appointment with me had been canceling my appointments at the last moment. I've talked to TransVision about it and they said that they can't do anything about the medical provider's flakiness. I still have an appointment but I'm not sure if it will actually happen  >:( :icon_burn: >:( :icon_burn:

Tom Waddell said they can't take me in b/c I don't live in SF

Lyon-Martin doesn't accept my current insurance so I'll have to pay out of pocket if I do decide to get my services there. Even then, I do not know how reliable and how fast their services are

I'm going to go check Dimensions clinic

PS Btw constance, letting you know, I have sent you a PM

And I've replied with the contact info for my endo and former therapist.
