My hair is a little passed shoulder length (my avatar) and since i'm not really feeling the girly type tops and bottoms right now, can you recommend any labels that are more unisex? Does it even exist? lol.
An example of something I recently picked up is this Tommy shirt.

What I like about it is the contours of the collar matches the sweeping style of my hair framing my face and isn't polo or dress shirt style.
What kind of stuff do you like?
Hey Evelyn,
I'm pre-everything, but as I continue to lose weight and grow my hair, I'm trying to cultivate a more andro look. Clothes that emphasive just how thin I am, and also have an open neckline are choice for that. I ordered one of these jackets about a month ago and loved it. I generally wear it with a low-cut colored tanktop beneath.

http://www.dealman.co.nz/collections/casual-wear/products/dark-assassin-s-style-hoody
I just ordered it in the other 3 colors. I think these styles and cuts are very unisex and a little edgy. There's a lot of other stuff too in slim fit cuts as well. And I haven't even checked out the women's section there yet.
Happy hunting!
Cheers,
Tegan
Yes I do prefer v-neck styles, draws the eyes down, best suited to my sugar-cone with a ice cream top angular look O> with the hair falling around. lol.
I dunno about specific labels, though Calvin Klein does show up a lot in my wardrobe I suppose. I tend to stick to thrift stores for my stuff. But anything slim-fit or v-necked is a good bet. Skinny jeans, fitted button-ups, that kind of thing. Asian labels also produce much more feminine stuff for men than European or American ones, if you can fit the clothes.
The trick is that it takes patience. I tend to try on ten or more things for each one I buy. If you are buying figure-hugging stuff, it really needs to fit properly or it just ends up looking awkward.
My work-appropriate staple is a grey, blue or white slim-fit men's button-up and dark boot-cut women's jeans or black slacks (my hips do not get along with men's pants), a men's black/silver necklace, and black boots. And my asymmetrical haircut finishes the look. A touch of makeup if I'm being super fancy. I do prefer the dressier kind of look. In the summer I'll throw on a tank-top and skinny jeans sometimes, but then I tend to draw more attention than I like.

Thanks for the link, there's some great stuff on that site and it's pretty cheap too!
I'm more of a found item assembler than a label or store shopper, myself. As for stores, American Apparel is probably the most popular one offering a lot of androgynous stuff. I like to conceive looks and then hunt for stuff at thrift stores and eBay. Right now my fav eBay seller is called The Mogan. They have new stuff at great prices. Most of theirs is fairly feminine, but some of it could be considered andro, too. Mostly on eBay I just come up with an idea I want and search for something that comes close. Always check out the seller when you do that, of course.

Thanks all, for the tips.
Lyric, i've been checking those links out, I really like the possibilities here.
I just found this on American Apparel, I guess I'm a sucker for shawl styles.

And the stuff in TheMogan eBay - I'm going to spend all day on there. lol.
I think fossil has some stuff that can go both ways... Though they may be a bit pricy
Www.fossil.com (http://www.fossil.com)
I had a thing for John Varvatos before I gave up on being an androgynous guy and transitioned. There's some pretty edgy andro rock star looking things I wore that I still have. It's a bit butch for me now, but my wife wants them for her after she drops another size. Warning: this stuff is brutally expensive.

Actually just got me a pair of converse for the first time a couple weeks ago!
If you have the bank balance you could go for Rad Hourani or maybe Commes des Garcon

Makes me think that I need Converse/All star shoes... pehaps several pairs of them. I have run into huge problem - feet have shrunk and my male shoes are either too big or ugly :(.
I know lots of people who would LOVE to have that problem. Haha
american apparel
uniqlo
express
h&m
river island
maybe calvin klein
come to mind. Zara maybe... not so much their mens stuff? but the womens stuff can run andro. Asian sites are fun but a pain to wait for
Calvin Klein Men's Slim Straight Jeans - 2% lycra and decent size pockets.
Jockey Elance Men's Bikini Briefs - Unlike most other men's bikini's, do not have ugly seams or huge waistbands.
Target - Of the discount stores, they have some nice athletic cut T-shirts and their men's section in general is a bit more towards androgynous than their competition.
JC Penney - Some of their Arizona jeans are interesting, as well as the Levi's mini-store they all have now, they also have a pretty good selection of Converse shoes.
OK cool. Checking out these suggestions.
An added complication if you are over 30 is that a lot of andro/unisex clothes like hoodies are usually associated with youth fashion, so you can look a bit ridiculous wearing them ("trying to hard to look young") that IMO is more painfully obvious that trying to pass.

I've noticed that the prices for some designer clothing is astonishing ridiculous.

I respectfully disagree about quite a wide range of "young" clothes. If you have the body of a young person (slim and fit) and have style, you are not mutton dressed as lamb.
YMMV.

And you have to know exactly what you're getting if buying online. What a gamble. Too bad there aren't designer showrooms in the cities.

Some people will think you look ridiculous if you dress androgynous period. One does have to develop a thick skin if one dresses outside the norm. In some ways, it's harder if you are young, trying to fit in. Teenagers are the ones most likely to make rude comments, being all immature and such.
^^ Yeah if you are wearing that dorky extreme androgyny stuff with the space suits and platform shoes. :D
That's actually one of my peeves with androgyny today. The gaudy looking fashion that's marketed with most things "androgyny" in general.
Not much professional and conservative stuff. Really neutral stuff.

Where can I get a space suit? :)
Also not much in formal wear. I hate having to wear a traditional suit and tie, and I'd hate having to wear a tux if I'm invited to such an event now even more.
Like this kind of stuff that's shoveled as androgyny-ware

That just shows you how fine the line is. The one on the left looks pretty good to me. The one on the right, not so much.

I disagree, I think young people can get away with being "edgy". Generally the only thing that happens is that people will slot them into different social/fashion cliques (preppies, goths, thug, hiphop etc. etc.). But its something else if someone in their 30s, 40s, or 50s are "dressing outside of their generation".

It just doesn't work.
You can do it (you can do anything you want), but it will be like a neon sign and greatly increase the chances of getting clocked.
OMG this jacket. This is the stuff I'm talking about. Too bad it's also a $1,000 (and encroaching summer)

Perhaps that old guy is out of his generation, but as someone in my late 30's, my generation also had preppies, goths, hiphop, also glam, metal, and grunge. 80's and 90's androgynous rock stars that are now in their 40's, 50's, even 60's mostly still dress androgynous. One does have to keep up fashion somewhat though. I just can't find at a store, tight, acid washed orange tag Levi's that I wore back then today, and would look even more out of place if I went out in a vintage pair I'm sure I could find online.
I love my http://shop.lululemon.com/ (http://shop.lululemon.com/) clothing here in Canada, they have tons of active-wear for women which is androgynous, for cheaper things you can also order from Asia but make sure to account for the fact that their sizes are different, most westerners need XXL or bigger.

At least the price is right but it's always a gamble.
^^^ That double breasted cardigan is nice. Are the sizes one size small compared to the US? Say if I needed a US small would that be the med?
For myself I order XXL but in western guys clothing I'm a Medium/Large. I've been meaning to order some more clothes from them since I really like the style and price.

There are lots of "meetoo" brands that carry knock-offs now at most any discount clothing store. They will have stuff that is 6 months to a year old. Still in fashion, but you don't pay for being "bleeding edge". This works in the fashion backwater where I live...
I tend to gravitate more towards the discount stores that get the odd sizes and left over inventory, since many of us girls use odd sizes it works out great for me and I'm able to pick up good clothes and really low prices.
