...I've come to think of proselytizing as a co-dependent attitude/behaviour. Anyone with me on this? I mean, some people are soooo hung up on others 'getting saved' that they can't rest unless it happens...
Just a musing.... an amusing one, too, at that .... ;)
Valerie
I lived in more or less the same structure, for a brief but still too lengthy a time, with a lady that fancied herself a savior of chickens and rabbits; this was classic co-dependent behavior, the whole situation was less-than-healthy, and actually illegal beyond the ethical considerations of the critter filth and neglect of her actual human relationships...
I tend to be with Valerie on this.
I don't mind if y'all care about 'my soul', I just don't necessarily need to hear a lot about it.
See, I have my own take on salvation and enlightenment, which I have given some real and critical thought for a number of years, and which I have some conviction about.
thank you in advance for your consideration
NONE
If on the other hand you want to give me food for my stomach (my soul is full) I'll gladly accept it, especially fried chicken...
"Proselytizing," in the future would you please eschew obfuscation, thank you.

At one time I used to think exactly the same None of the Above - point is once You Know You Are Saved you absolutely do not have "to think" or "worry about it" at all anymore and that sort of conviction is definitely not easy to come by or to convey.
Cheers (chicken is good too! ;D ) :icon_bunch:
I don't believe in saving, in fact I have no savings account. Just a checking acct, so I can use the ATM machine and not have to carry cash.
not-a
Well I wasn't trying to offend. I mean, I'm Christian my own self, ya' know.
My happiness in my faith or in general does not rely on other people coming to Christ, or being saved, or whatever terminology one might want to use.
With many who try so hard to convert others, this is where I see co-dependency...sharing one's faith is one story, but there are some who are entirely too hung up on others' salvation....they become enmeshed, so to speak. They feel it is their burden to make sure that this person, or group of people, come to think as they do, believe as they do. This is the co-dependent behaviour I refer to.
And too, (since we're now talking about food :D), let's meet the practical needs of people without the expectation that in their gratitude they'll spontaneously want to believe as we do.
A long time ago, in the before time, I served a two year mission for the Mormon church. I spent my days trying to convert people in Chile to the Mormon faith. I was a cult member.
It took me years to back out of that gig. What a loss.
Cindi
Cindi, me too -- except I only got through a year... I wasn't exactly a "great" missionary. I had fun breaking rules and trying to get myself booted. They were also giving me tons of medication and sending me to councelling for being trans (trying to make a man out of me, which didn't work and only left me with lots of emotional scars -- yay!)
I had nightmares about the church for years after I left. I still get them. I actually get panic attacks near missionaries because it brings up bad memories. So, yeah, I avoid the church.

One more thing (proselytizing for my new religion here, Chocolate-ism):
Have you ever felt that there was something missing in your life? Have you felt alone, sad and scared and wondered where you could turn to? Have you ever wondered if have a purpose in this life?
There is a place to turn, and that is Chocolate. Chocolate is the answer for everything. Chocolate -- it's what you're missing out on...
;D *I'm weird at times!*

Let's call our church: The Church of Scrumptious Chocolate of also Coffee Fiends.
Coffee -- it's another testament of Scrumptiousness!
Christ taught His disciples to go into the towns and preach, and if they had not ears to hear, then shake the dust of the town from their sandals, and go into another town. In other words, don't shove it down their throats.
Just a musing
