They say music can say what our hearts can't, can show the world what we can not quite say, for fear of losing our family, or friends.... or from uncertainty. A song, can speak from our hearts, our minds, our very soul..
Mine, is Christine Agulera's "Reflection", from Disney's Mulan.
Or Sophie Ellis-Bextor's "Mixed Up World"
When I have that uncertainty what am I doing, it's Jessie J's "Who You Are"
I was just wondering, what yours is? And does it help you?
Freedom of Choice - DEVO...! ::)
Wouldn't say it helps, but it sure is apt sometimes!
Devo... Lol... Are We Not Men?
No, we are def not men! *giggles*
Before transition it was U2s "Still haven't found what I'm looking for". :-\
Now it is Katrina and the Waves "Walking on sunshine".
"Somewhere" from West Side Story has been stuck in my head for a while. Don't know if I'm feeling hopeful or insecure.
I relate to a lot of Dr Awkward's music.
My early childhood is a lot like "keep on moving" from his earlier albums, and more recently "different" and "blank pages" have been resonating.
Other than that I have been listening to the Buffy "once more other feeling" soundtrack on my work commute... And I'm starting to notice that the whole episode is like one giant metaphor for living life as trans*... Maybe I am just over analyzing it, but that's what it sounds like to me.
I just wish someone would think of me like in the Aerosmith song "Don't want to miss a thing", sigh! ::)
For all of my life it has been REM, Everybody Hurts Sometime.
Listen after the 3rd minute

This Year, by the Mountain Goats, or Girl Anachronism by the Dresden Dolls. :P
Right off the top of my head as it relates it would be David Bowie's "Changes" and "My Life" by the Beatles. I have such a wide taste in music it is hard to tie just one song down though. But that is a good start.
Four songs (cheating I know but there is darkness and light in all of us)
When I'm in a good mood
Here I go again - Whitesnake
Rebel Rebel - David Bowie (I would of been your queen my goblin king)
When the horns start coming out
Curse of Millhaven
O'malley's bar
Both by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
It always is dependent on my mood but whenever I need to smile I listen to Hate My Life by Theory of a Deadman
I walk alone by Tarja
I went to see the local symphony perform Beethoven's 7th a few months back and thought, "wow, that is my life." The first movement reminded me of my denial phase-very structured and conformist. The second movement reflected my inner sadness. The third, the joy I felt coming out and becoming myself and the 4th, the triumph that is sure to follow.
Jane
Iris
Hey Jude , revolution - beatles , whole lota of love - zeppelin, ball and chain -Janis Joplin at monteray pop festival, white rabbit- airplane , watch tower- Jimmy Hendrix , Aqualung - Jethro Tull , Day by Day - from godspell
Shostakovich's 8th string quartet. I think it explains my life fairly well I'm sad to say.
"White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane - that's how weird my early life was!
"Because seen through these eyes
We lead a double life
No one will know
So check it out steppin' out here I go"
The Fixx - Are We Ourselves
I could search for another song that I identify with better, but this is the first thing that came to mind.
"Any World That I'm Welcome To" by Steely Dan

You know that is my favourite film/song.
Does walmart sell animal crackers? haha
It used to be KT Tunstall's "Suddenly I See"
http://www.youtube.com/embed/9AEoUa0Hlso
Here's the opening lyrics:
Her face is a map of the world
Is a map of the world
You can see she's a beautiful girl
She's a beautiful girl
And everything around her is a silver pool of light
The people who surround her feel the benefit of it
It makes you calm
She holds you captivated in her palm
Suddenly I see (suddenly I see)
This is what I wanna be
Now it's "Do You Realize?" by the Flaming Lips:

Definitely

Ride by Lana del Rey. That is so much like me it's ridiculous. The intro and outtro as well as the actual song. It's funny gus I first heard it cuz somebody played it for me because they said it reminded them of me and I was like..welll damn.

I love Jefferson Airplane... Funny thing is I found out last week in therapy that my therapist is good friends with Grace Slick... Who would have thought... Did you know she is now a very talented artist in the Malibu area... Google her, it is quite an interesting story.

This one.
I'd have to say mine would be "It's a long road" by Dan Hill from the Rambo movies
Explaines me to a tee sometimes
Behind Blue Eyes...
This is pretty much my song

Oh is there anyone I can hold onto right now? Anybody to help this feeling?
I got you. I want to be your friend and I care so much about you. Please know that. You have an incredibly beautiful soul.
Wish You Were Here. There are plenty of songs that resonate with a particular time or mood or feeling. But always this song has new meaning and a timelessness that never escapes me. I can never turn it off and even though I can go a long time without hearing it, as soon as I do I'm flooded with emotions and memories and hope/hopelessness.
I've been too many people to have a song about my life, but I guess most recently:
http://youtu.be/Ql4Hpq2vZ7A
Either:
"Walking on Air" By Kerli
or
"Hazy Shade of Winter" covered by the Bangles (which makes me cry like a banshee)
depending upon my mood.
For me it has to be
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SJUhlRoBL8M
life has too much serious guff involved in it
from a transition point of view it has to be te Moonlight suite (Beethoven) movement 1-what is going on, movement 2 - realisation and positive direction, movement 3 - dealing with the NHS.......
Loser by John Lennon.
put that in your bonnet people of earth
well there is "Dude Looks Like A Lady" - Aerosmith (LOL)
then theres "Fade To Black" - Metallica
-I was me but now hes gone
but i i think my fav is "Save Me" - Avenged Sevenfold
-save me, im trapped in a vile world
save me, where the end game is the same as every other
we're only here to die
i know its dark but life is dark.

I <3 the bangles version of that song
I listen to a lot of Disney, but I feel like Reflection from Mulan fits.
Especially the line about the lyric that says "When will my reflection show who I am inside?"

It's over today
The heat is gone, time is gone
F for fake
I feel no wrong, hide no wrong
I love this place, the lights
Under this face, so dry
Only way to change, give yourself away
Don't be ashamed, next in line
Close one eye, just walk by
In these days
Im breathing stone, crying alone
Ill win this race
Ill leave alone, arrive alone
Love this place, the lights
Under this face, so dry
Stripped to the bone
I did no wrong
Truth is my name
Give yourself away
I'm Mike Patton's #1 fan. Wanted to pick a crazier song but if I used that in this thread, people would be scared of me =(
Horse with no name - America, Madman across the water - Sir Elton John
At one point, I'd have chosen "Flowers On The Wall" by The Statler Brothers. Though I was never sectioned or suffered from agoraphobia, I had soul-crushing clinical depression so in some ways, I could relate to that song.
Now, I'd go for "Walk of Life" by Dire Straits.

A crazier one, eh? What would that be? I'm curious. Faith No More totally rules, by the way. One of my top 5 favorite bands.
The song that I would pick isn't by them. It's by the totally GODLY Conor & Jay.

I'm not sure really. There's a few that fit in different ways.
Lose Yourself - Eminem
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zepplin
The Day That Never Comes - Metallica
The Way of the Fist by 5 Finger Death Punch for my last 4 years at school

I don't know how I forgot about GG Allin he was as mad as a bag of badgers!
About a Girl - Nirvana
It changes depending on the time and mood, but right now I've been feeling "Sober" by Kelly Clarkson is pretty fitting...

I don't know
This could break my heart or save me
Nothing's real
Until you let go completely
So here I go with all my thoughts I've been saving
So here I go with all my fears weighing on me
Three months and I'm still sober
Picked all my weeds but kept the flowers
But I know it's never really over
I don't know
I could crash and burn but maybe
At the end of this road I might catch a glimpse of me
So I won't worry about my timing I wanna get it right
No comparing
Second guessing
No, not this time
Three months and I'm still breathing
Been a long road since those hands I left my tears in but I know
It's never really over, no
This one might hit some of us hard.
"Say Something I'm Giving Up On You"
the old you...

Yeah, it's from their nuttiest album. Supposedly the song's about children having to live up to their parents' expectations but eh... lyrics aren't that big a part of the song, I just like how pointless and crazy it all is. Oh, past the 5 minute mark the song is super awesome and makes me laugh...
And wow, GG Allin, high school must've been bad!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UboG6Y7ACVs
Even though I like every Mr Bungle song (Demos, CD's, it doesn't matter) If I HAD to pick only one, it would be "Merry Go Bye Bye". This song is so amazing and that ending!! THAT ENDING!!....where it mellows out at the end...WOW!! The "noise" thing after the pause, though?
Meh....underdeveloped and boring. I view it as nothing more than an outtake. It IS called "Nothing", after all.
While I was still in self denial going through the motions:
Linkin Park - Numb

Now that I'm on the road to transitioning I've kinda made Jordin Sparks' "One Step At A Time" my theme song:
