Hi Folks
Simple question, why are people renting these things in Korea. Our 2 cell phones are modern and our hotel offers free wifi internet access. Please could someone explain why it's necessary to have an internet router. Is it because cell phone charges are high or for a technical reason.
Thanks
Dear Saskia,
I've heard that Korea, along with Japan, uses a different, non-GSM compatible mobile phone standard, thus rendering a lot of phones unusable there.
If my phone works, I'll just get a prepaid SIM card and that's it.

Thanks for that Amy. It looks like they don't use GSM but use the CDMA system. My cell phone can use WCDMA not sure if thats going to work. I think we're just going to manage with Skype.
See you very soon

Same here. I'll just try in the airport if I get a connection with my German SIM card and then decide.
See you in a few days!

it's very useful since not all places have wifi. i rented mine at the airport. i suggest you just rent the portable wifi device since you won't be able to talk. it's 8000 won/day
