Title: Medical advancements in the future
Post by: FtMaster on April 29, 2014, 12:48:07 PM
Hi everyone!
I'm a trans guy in my teens, and I've been reading up on metoidioplasty and phalloplasty a lot in the last few months. I know that I wouldn't get bottom surgery for about 10 years or so, and I was wondering if any of you had any ideas about any advancements or changes that may be in place by then for guys wanting to get bottom surgery. Seeing new techniques being developed is absolutely fascinating, and I find it lessens my depression a bit to think about what might be possible for me bottom surgery wise in the future.
So, does anyone have any ideas about any possible future advancements? c:

Research regarding lab-grown penises for rabbits looks promising (if you haven't heard about that, Google "rabbits lab grown penis" for a bunch of articles about it), and progress on 3D printing organs in general. Perhaps someday they'll be able to print ovaries and uteruses for women, and penises and testicles for men. It goes beyond progress for genital reconstruction. Say if they could print fully functioning testicles for a man without them, he wouldn't need an external source of testosterone after that.

Realistically speaking, whether this kind of thing will be ready and available to the public in 10 years is another matter. It's bound to be expensive, especially at first, too. In any case it's cool to think about, and if it happens to be ready in time for people who have already been saving up for bottom surgery... well, awesome.

I've read also up on the lab grown organs which is fascinating to think about advancements like that in the future. I'd love to see most recently, lab grown or 3D printed urethrae being used instead of the procedures they do now.
I know of 1 case where I believe 4 boys were given new urethrae using lab grown and that worked wonderfully for them. I'd think applying that to bottom surgery for FtM would cease a lot of issues that arise with the riskiness involved right now.

And don't get me started on the lab grown penises. I'm holding out just for that alone to see where it advances in the next 5 years. Gets me giddy thinking I can send off my cells and in 4-6 weeks get to the doctors and take a look at my own living celled penis that very well could look/act exactly like a cismales, nerves and all.

Always wonderful things to look forward to now in the medical science fields. We're going by leaps and bounds with new discoveries in the past just 5 years so I'm pretty hopeful.

I think lab grown penises in the future would be one of the coolest things ever, do you think it'd work exactly like a cis male penis? And blink, you mentioned the possibility of functioning testicles, imagine that coupled with natural erections etc, or even sperm production, it's just so amazing to think about :')
I can't wait to see what the future holds in regards to bottom surgery

Here is something really exciting that I read about the lab grow penis's  ;D ;D:

"You might have heard of Dr Atala before. He was the man behind the lab grown penises implanted on rabbits. These rabbits were able to reproduce normally.

Atala's research was to be able to use one's own cells to grow organs and body parts without fear of your body rejecting it.

This was announced around 8 years ago with no further information. But just last year, they announced that the US government will fund Dr Atala and his group for 5 years in order to develop medical procedures for wounded veterans... with the lab grown penises on the to do list.

This means that within 5 years time, surgery to have a surgically attached and fully functional penis will be possible. Only one more, short little jump from that opens the possibilities for transsexual men in the future.

I know I'm excited."

But if a man gets his penis cut off the stalk is still there? So do they grow it somewhere else then just sew it back on the stalk?

Wait, so could this potentially be a fully sensate penis? Like a cis guy's? I'd be in my early 20s by the time this happened, if it does, and I'm getting very excited at the thought :')
