Title: Doctors...
Post by: ErinWDK on May 04, 2014, 11:01:58 AM
Things are getting "interesting" for me.

A few weeks ago I saw my Primary Care Physician.  He made a point that Spiro would be bad for my heart and I shouldn't use it.  He also pointed out that as I drop weight and exercise more my body will make less Estrogen and make more effective use of Testosterone - as if that would be a good thing...

A week or so later I saw my Psych who was ready to prescibe a low dosage of Spiro but didn't want to go against the advice of my PCP.  So I ened up with a pit of Finisteride.

Friday I saw my Cardiologist.  Before I could ask him what it would take to get on Spiro, he asked me about it.  His STRONG opinion was that at lest a bit of Spiro would be so good for my heart that it was worth managing the assorted issues so that I could be on it.  EGAD!  So now I am on Spiro and will have blood tests in two weeks to look at potassium levels and kidney function.  If all goes well this will be increased in a bit.

So, I am on the road.  it is a really strange and bumpy start, but I am on the road.

You should get on web sites and get the info on your meds you what to take .once you do YOUR  research .Print it out take it with you to your next doctors visit and go over it with them .If that does not change there out look its time to change docs ..Treat your pyhic doctor same way as it seems there more flexible .Its important have all your doctors on same page .So if you need adjustment to your meds the doctors can make the right adjustments .You need to know what and how your meds do so if theirs problem you get help sooner than later..Where thought to always listen to the doctors but we know our bodys better than the doctors. So YOU need to led your doctors on your journey ..Spiro i believe was made to lower blood pressure so it positive for you as long do not have low blood pressure .My family doc was second in order on my med management .And to my surprise we was like yes i have 5 other transgender who he works with ...Do you blood work and keep all docs in loop and you wiil do great.Just remember the doctors work for YOU and you should be involved all your heath issues .Spiro is easy med to get insurance cover .AND if your pyhic writes up the right your condition for you most insurance will cover ..  This just me but my meds are only 46 dollars a month (i am on patch as i am mid life gal) .  Read everything you can get your hands on and you will be prepared for you future .. THIS just my view but look around theirs a ton great gals that will help and guide you .AKA Sara
