Title: Bottled Emotions: Always on Tap! (Ev's Poetry Thread)
Post by: Ev on May 04, 2014, 07:52:46 PM
Posting poetry here is becoming a habit, so starting a thread may be the best thing for me to do so I am not scattered about the forums/hogging space.

I will be posting a new poem, on average, at least every 1-3 days (time permitting.)  I have hundreds of these things clogging every last inch of my office, and sometimes write 10 a day when the muse is screaming in my ear, so I am not going to run out anytime soon.

First, I am going to fetch the others I did here so far and bring them up into this thread.

While I share much of my work for free, I am a self-published/copyrighted author and I have some books published.  However, the copyright is more about the company I publish under protecting themselves than me being a Greedy Guss.  However, if you feel like supporting my work I will not object to anyone adopting one of my babies (for a fee) and giving them a new home.  My first poetry book was published under my birth name.  (Link provided below.)

Feel free to share your work in this thread as well, if you want.

****Note: I do not "critique" work such as poetry, as something that means one thing to one, will mean another thing to another.  So, I shall refrain from leaving "feedback" on the poems...and don't ask.  I am too nice when it comes to this stuff and will be biased, and will thus say this in advance:

It's all beautiful.

Enjoy!

Scar Collector

I could take your head
In your sleep, of course
But I spared you instead
Because I need the remorse
Oh, how you do plague me
And every step that I dare take
But I need you unquestionably
So on tired nights I can lie awake
It would be easy to save us
Walking away is another route
But I cannot live without fuss
So instead I'll just sit and pout
Nothing is ever simple or easy
I prefer all the madness, though
The greatest feeling is queesy
And I need all the scars I can show

Our Last Sunrise

I ascend into your depth,
Entering deep within your reason.
Pushing farther away from death:
My loyalty to you defines treason.

Your conservative mind can dance,
Frolicking in my field of compromise.
One-track mind puts us in a trance:
Falling to darkness our last sunrise.

Shutter Blooms

I take credit for all nature's beauty
I lay claim to all the world's pain
I steal your soul with a snap and a click
I forge a story that is not my own

Smile and wave for me at my command
To do anything else is a crying shame
Stopping time and space today
Makes me feel a little like a god should

Potpourri paparazzi so bright so colorful
Those flowers of light and sound
Litter the floor around the him and the her
But not a one has its own smell

My Time

I've got little left on this rock:
Save for my wits
My pride
And a few seconds on the clock.

But it's all I'll ever need, you see:
For I fear not death
Nor hell
And certainly not the truth that is me.

I'll Let Me Be

The
Sight of the visionary,
Makes him go blind.
My
Thought of the scholar,
Breaks down his mind.
Our
Hate of the prophet,
Kills his own kind.
That
All we now know,
Calls me to find!

Tomorrow you knew me,
Now why can't you see?
Today I am silent (fruitless tree.)
Pushing the silence (God let me be!)

Your
Cause and desired effect,
No way finds time.
His
End justifying the means,
Not secret or sublime.
Her
Love of all this,
Long past its prime.
This
Caging of the poet,
Destroys need of rhyme!

Years past you knew me,
Why didn't you see?
Future I am loved (Overlooked prodigy.)
Yesterday I was lost (Didn't let me be!)

Brother
Said you've loved him,
Breaking the fragile heart.

Mother
Gave birth to nothing,
Still had your part.

Father
Really could never know,
Too late to start.

Sister
Walked away from them,
A work of art!

Never really knew me,
You didn't want to see?
Forgotten image I am (Knowing transparency.)
Shadow with a purpose (I'll let me be!)

Wrote this about homeless veterans, but it's also perfectly applicable to transgender people.

Wounded Soul

Do you see me, want to see me?
Walk briskly by and accept my mask.
Do you know me, care to know me?
Are you too afraid to ask.
Do you notice tears welling in my eyes?
Feel the pain within my sighs.
Am I just another faceless human being?
With heart and soul best left unseen.
If I speak softly will you hear?
Dare you reach out, attempt to draw near.
Tears run unnoticed down my face,
For lack of love in this lonely place.

Wrote this about several nights of fun and games on Hill 875 in VN.

Verdant Woods

Jungles smelling of decay, sweating, suffocating heat,
Stinking fungus, rotting sox, wet and tired feet.
Dengue and malarial fever, liver flukes and leeches,
Those verdant woods a far cry from Vung Tau's sandy beaches.
Scorpions, Cobras, great variety of very poisonous snakes,
Some strike to kill some cause blindness like the Banded Krait.
Food's sweet residue on our breath, lips gnawed by rats,
Stealthy nighttime creatures, rodents large as cats.
Mosquitoes in the millions buzzing noisily around our heads,
Wondering if morning will find us all alive or dead.
Watching intently in the darkness for VC and NVA,
Praying earnestly to God to see the light of day.
Stench of blood and rotting corpses lay all round about,
Nostrils recoil while maggots roil the course of war in doubt.
Demonstrations in the streets, flags burning way back there,
There is nothing in the records saying war is ever fair.

Going Away

I looked to the world and laughed
But the world looked at me and cried
I walked on the earth and lived
But they say I crawled about and died

With blind lips let them speak
Their shame I never wanted to be mine
With straining sinews weak
Let them each tumble their own line

I looked to the world and sighed
But the world looked to me and bled
I then lied to their faces and said
Best things for them to think me dead

Until Then

Stealing a glance, or maybe a sweet kiss,
Watching you pass on by, your smile too much to miss.

Having you by my side is a dream come true,
I hope I never wake, unless I wake next to you.

The sun has lost its purpose, the stars their creed.
You are my all, the only light I need.

If beauty conquers nations, you would be ruler of all,
Your eyes bring many a knee to fall.

Loving you is a work of art, lending me inspirations that never cease,
Never have I found so much torment within peace.

I just hope my last moments can be in your loving care,
Until then, to wait for you is only a lasting dare.

Your Life Your Strife

You say I am strange, perhaps it is true.
In all honesty, I don't understand you.
Call me queer and throw sticks and stones,
Your words do worse than break my bones.

I refuse to give in to your unrealistic demands,
And there is no way to break me with your sickly hands.
No matter what you may do, it is all the same...
When I am hurt, it's only myself to blame.

Why do I let your foolish words scathe me so?
There are things about me you don't even know.
So why are you quick to judge my face,
When all I can do is wrong, failing in your perfect grace?

If I am so insignificant, I am only left pondering:
Why do you search me out, when I was far from your wandering?
For all my inferiority, you clearly go out of your way,
Just so this lowly man will have to hear what you have to say.

I am quite pleased with my own awkward heart:
Not hurt by WHAT you say, but WHY you try to rip me apart.
In this world, I do not try to understand everyone's life,
But I always question why so many have to live in such strife.

Lady of the Forgotten Night

Draped across a summer moon,
My heart stretches henceforth:
Your eyes reflecting the dusk
A smile forgotten not with the sun.

I knew not when you went away;
You were always on my mind:
Your face softly chiseled its way
Upon my frigid stone of a heart.

Lady of the forgotten night,
You still haunt my every thought:
I was told I could never have you
But no one can steal my dreams.

I always return to your presence,
Each and every slumbering night:
An impure desire some have said
But to us it's all we could ever have.

A Mother

A mother is one who loves child
No matter who you are
A mother is someone who loves you
No matter how near or far
A mother is a goddess on earth indeed
Closer than any father above or below
A mother is merciful and loving always
Closer than anyone could ever know
A mother is there even when she is not
No matter where you have been
A mother is always in her child's heart
No matter what loss or what sin
A mother is better than any friend
One who loves and holds beyond all reach
A mother is greater than any gold
One who speaks truth but does not preach

Poor Selene

Poor Selene
Glass
She knows not why
Their love turns so mean
Broken
All she ever feels
Is empty fragments in between

A Little Inspiration

Just a little inspiration is all I seek,
to find a little strength amidst the weak.
These words continue to elude my hands,
falling between my fingertips like the sands.
The frustration builds as I yearn to find
a little solace or peace of mind.
In an ocean of ideas I wade,
still beneath my feet all seem to fade.

A word or two is seemingly beyond me,
fleeing far from what I am meant to see.
If I could discover that which I desire,
perhaps it would quench this burning fire.
In my mind I know what needs to be,
yet these hands seem to unmercifully fail me.
If I could I would sell this very nation,
just to find a little inspiration.

Arm's Reach

It's raining outside
The world's cats and dogs
Gently tapping against my window
Wet as it may be out there
Inside it is dry as a bone
That rests in the desert sun
Hot on the outside
But inside it is rather cold
Greener grass on other sides
But my heart once made of stone
I have my space
Or so it seems to me
But to everyone else
All they see is emptiness
An arm's reach is all I need
To keep myself so close but so far

By Your Grace

I stand before you a warrior
(I cower behind myself)
I stand before you a champion
(I have defeated myself)
I stand before you a savior
(I have condemned myself)
I stand before you a survivor
(I already killed myself)

While I am before you
I am not me
I am clearly something
You cannot see

I come to you a prophet
(I have lost myself)
I come to you a light
(I still shroud myself)
I come to you a way
(I was misled myself)
I come to you a healer
(I cannot mend myself)

When I come to you
I have no face
I search for something
By your grace

Broadcast your Love (We'll Keep in Touch)

Blindness in high-definition,
Darkness has never been so clear.
Hate in surround sound,
Ignorance has never been so loud.
Three-dimensional transmissions
For you to see more intensely,
Never have lies looked so good.
Delusion more believable now
Than we could ever have imagined.
But it will all be ok,
As long as you:
Text me, dear.
I love to see your lol,
But the sound of your laughter
Is more than I can take.
Call me, friend,
We can keep in touch.
But the sight of your face
Is more than I can take.
Broadcast to us your love,
I know you have plenty to go 'round.
Just don't give it to me in person,
Because there is too much for me
To handle all by my lonesome self.
So we'll keep in touch,
We just won't touch.
You know what I mean, girlfriend.
You know what I mean, man.
Never mind all that,
Because I'm still here for you:
Let's play together, friend.
Just like we used to do as children.
But let's shoot hoops from separate rooms,
Because we just don't have time for outside.
The world is changing,
And I, inevitably along with it.
Forgive me if I leave you all behind,
But humanity has long since grown obsolete.

Loved this poem, Shantel. I am a veteran and transgender. It speaks to me in a special way.

I'm alive, but my internet is dead.  Hence the inactivity of the posting on my part.

I did, however, start HRT.  So that's the good news.

Anyways, I will still be putting up a poem from time to time: not often, but to those who follow this thread I say thank you for stopping by.

My Wits Are About Me (But Not in My Head)

My wits are about me, but not in my head
Scattered across the floor like a bag of spilled marbles, and I've lost track.
I counted them, but I am one short tallying six.
Perhaps I can find them in a place called Crazy, I'm going there.
Put my case inside this basket.
Look over the side and take residence on this edge,
Build my dwellings with walls of rubber and white.
Call to the moon, it may have the answers
If it doesn't, I'll just ask myself (ha ha)
Get dressed in the tightest jacket
Take the short bus home.
Eat my sleepy candy
It makes me happy, not so mad.
Go back to looking for little, lost glass spheres.
I can't trust you, but I need your help.
Do you hear that?
My wits are about me, but not in my head!

Hey, who is this Ev person posting all the poems I wrote?  Oh yeah, that's me!

I am not really continuing this thread, but I am going to bump it up to the top and attach a link to my poetry blog I "just" started not too long ago.  I will also have this link included in another forum post including all my other blogs, when I get around to it.

Some of the poems I include over there will also be the ones I may have posted over here in the past.  What I post can be classified as "mature" content and so I have decided to move a lot of what I do off of this site (out of respect for Susan's).  So, follow the links to my blogs at your own risk.  I don't pull any of my punches when I am given my own realm to play in.
