Title: Hi, I'm stacy
Post by: stacyb1 on May 07, 2014, 08:33:09 AM
Hi,
I'm Stacy, a 54 year old pre-op transperson -after knowing I was trans and completely hiding it for the first 51 years of my life -I finally started transitioning - and started living as a woman full time about two years ago, and then went on hormones a little over a year ago -pretty straightforward story,

a while back I asked for and got a letter from my psychologist recommending surgery, and then he suggested I see a second psychologist for a second letter verifying his diagnosis -basically just supporting documentation -
as I told the second psychologist one time "I'm so crazy I see two psychologists" :) he said "you're not crazy" -which makes me wonder.....

anyways so I'm doing that and in the mean time I had quit my last job -I was part-time and didn't have insurance -I get insurance through the state-but it wouldn't cover surgery- so I needed a job with health insurance that would cover the surgery, there were other reasons to quit when I did -so I don't regret that decision

but I've been looking for a job as a transperson and it's really a really miserable situation because I'm not passable, but I am more confidant as a person now -there's just so much unspoken prejudice. There where a bunch of other things going on too (my father had his third stroke, my mother wound up in the hospital for a couple months etc, just a lot of stuff and it all got to be a bit much so I  started on anti-depressants about a month ago which seems to help  -as they say "are we having fun yet?"

anyways, as generally pointless as it seems right now working on getting a second letter, I continue to see the guy, and the last couple sessions he's been asking if I've looked in to a doctor for this, and the answer is no,
and it really does seem pointless, without a job and health insurance to cover it, but part of the problem is I tend to waste a lot of time on computer thinking about sending out resumes, send out a couple then play spider solitaire for a couple hours and call it quits rather than using the internet in a useful way

so anyways -I have a friend who about 8 months ago went to Dr Rumor in Philadelphia, and another person I know is going next month to the same doctor and another person I know is going to a doctor in Colorado and she says dont go to Dr Rumor and that is the extent of my vast research on the subject (sort of pathetic actually) -so that's why I'm here to try and get information about doctors doing the surgery
