I just saw a flier for a new pop culture/comic convention called Bent Con. It's in the Los Angeles area, specifically Burbank. It claims to be a Con for and by the LGBT community. I was just wondering if anybody has been to it, or has heard anything about it. I'd hate to go and find that the T of LGBT is not being represented. Here's the website:

Check it out, and let me know your thoughts.:)
Cheers,
Teg
The Nerdist did a piece on it:

I'm a DragonCon regular myself although this year I'm headed out to GenCon.

Christine,
Good to hear from you. I'll check out the Nerdist piece when I get the chance. Me and Chris Hardwick- we're like this (fingers crossed to illustrate closeness). Okay, no, but I have met him a number of times. I'd post a pic, but my wife is the meat in our sandwich and I don't think it'd be a good idea. Besides, I have facial hair in it, so yeah.
Anyway, San Diego Comic Con is the big con for me each year. I also like WonderCon in Anaheim and Comikaze in Los Angeles, but I haven't been to many more like conventions besides. I get the impression that the ones I've been to are pretty big time in comparison to others, SDCC especially. Still, I hear DragonCon is quite the party, and I'd love to attend someday.
So, what's the verdict on Bent Con, you think? Yay or nay?
Teg
Edit: oh, the hell with it. This is Chris Hardwick and me, one year ago, 30lbs heavier, and in need of a good shave (me, not Chris). I blocked out the wife, out of respect for her privacy.

I want to goto the t convention in Atlanta (cant recall what its called), but not Dragoncon or other nerd fest. That is a previous life and I have to deal with nerds on a daily basis...
This year will be my first for DragonCon, I did make it for a day to FWA. I live 30 miles from it so I really have no excuse.
Me several years ago with my friend Buck at DragonCon

Best guy from Cartoon Network who's name escapes me right now. And he'll kill me for it when I see him next.

You've come a long way, Christine. ;)

Well the one for nerd fest is OutlantaCon and the one I went to last year is Southern Comfort Conference over at the Crown Plaza Hotel. Which ironically was were I went for my x-ray student conference a decade ago.
Southern Comfort Conference is pretty dang good. If you are new to being transgender and want to pick up a whole lot of experience and good tips quick it's a neat place to go. Get your scholarship application in now though because that's almost at the same time as DragonCon in September.

James, get it right: DragonCon and other conventions of its ilk are geek-fests, not nerd-fests. Geez, dude!
Honestly, some people...

Well, I'm a Georgia/Carolina Girl who plans on making more frequent trips to Atlanta after I get more settled in so look me up. PM me here if you like and I'll add you to my Facebook account. Fair warning though I have a personal mission to try every burger on the menu at the Vortex in Little Five Points.
Tegan, that face... You are beautiful in what ever gender you want to be.

Oh my god, Christine, are you serious? I sometimes worry a lot about my potential to pass. Do you think I could make it?
Here's a more recent pic.

Talk to me, girl.

PS- forgive me for temporarily derailing the topic.
No worries Tegan.
In my opinion you have better features than me and you have a smaller frame even with the snazzy suit. I think you would be very cute and even hot post transition. But I am just one opinion here so why not let others chime in?
You look a lot like my friend Emily here on the forums. She has the heart Emily heart name. You should see her before and after photos. It's pretty good and I barely recognize her in her older pics anymore. Might give you a good idea what's a head for you since your bone structure and hair types seem similar.

Geeks are a sub-set of nerds. I was trying to be inclusive. :P
You've got a good body structure for transitioning.

That's the one. Well see...
Christine and James,
Thanks, your comments have had me beaming all day. I posted pics for the first time on Susan's earlier this week on the "Show yourself" thread, but I got no comments or response. It's nice to get a little validation. Really, thank you. ;D
Cheers,
Teg
I go to SDCC every year. I used to go to Wondercon too, until it got shipped out of SF... :-\
I go to BigWow in San Jose, which isn't bad for a little con. They usually have a lot of great guests. IDK about Bentcon though.
Tiff,
Did you manage to wrangle passes for this year's SDCC?
I got 4 days + preview night- booyah!
-Teg
I got a 4 day but no preview night. Oh well. I plan on using that time to see all the things outside the center that I never really get around to.
And you'll be going as Tiffany? Just curious.
Ever cosplay? What takes you there- the art, the games, the movies?
-Teg
I'm a bit spoiled, since I have been running a booth for a couple of friends' production company for the past 10 years or so. I live in SD, so I have been going since 1998. This year we don't have a booth, but I got lucky, since our booth moved locations and they want me to see how to set it up for next year, so they gave me a pass for this show.
It would be unfair for me to complain about all the things (PARTIES!) I am not going to get to do without having our booth this year :D
