Title: Increasing your dilator size
Post by: Flygirl on May 09, 2014, 09:16:22 AM
My first topic!

So, I'm approaching my 3 month post-op mark and everything is going well so far, despite some minor frustrations along the way including a UTI. I had surgery with DR Chettawat and am incredibly pleased with the result, way beyond my expectations and everything works just fine!

I started dilating with the largest of the dilators he supplies in his kit being a 32mm at 9 weeks as prescribed and have reached a point where I feel I could easily be going bigger now which brings me to my question,

At which point, for those who have ventured bigger, did you start using your bigger dilators?
I have a  36mm dilator which I have experimented with a little in the past few days and it seems there will be no problem upgrading to it, but I also do not want to rush things, although now is probably the time to upgrade. My goal, is 38 to 40mm, which would be compatible with my hubby. He is slightly larger, but I'm sure we will be just fine at that point.

For those who have the experience, it would be nice to hear from you.

Brassard has a pretty specific, detailed dilation schedule. He has us go up to dilator #4 (38 mm) at 2 months post-op, and we'll continue using it forever (eventually, it's down to once a week for 15 minutes for life). I'd think you would be fine with a 38 mm at this point as long as you're gentle and careful; if you know what it feels like when you're using something too large, it's safe to at least try.

BTW, Brassard gives out the Soul Source dilator set, which has the 38 mm in it. I can certainly swear by those - comfortably designed, nice length (9 inches), and the curved tip makes insertion easier. You can also buy them individually, since you don't need any of the smaller sizes. http://www.soulsource.com/products/grs-vaginal-dilators/

Since penises compress a bit more than hard plastic, yeah, you're no doubt right that it'll be fine with your husband if you get up to using the 38 mm easily.

The kit of Soul Source dilators I received from Dr. Bowers only went up to the 36mm diameter one and I was using it at 6 weeks per her instructions, and will be from here on out, BUT I have some toys that are bigger and which give me no trouble since they are the silicon gel type.  Sniff sniff, I wish I could get a boyfriend to test drive me, boo hoo, but so far not happening.

I may actually buy the 38mm dilator from Soul Source myself since the company is only a few miles west of me.  I hear guys say they like the love chute a little tight anyway. Sigh.

Seriously, though if your instructions do not warn you against hitting a certain size too soon, try the bigger ones gently, and maybe by prepping by using the smaller one for a minute or two before inserting the larger one.  For each increase in size, that is what I did, and it was easy and comfortable. Be gentle, and smile!!

I agree with Jenna and Vicky suggestions.

Size up steps are major changes to the structure of the neo-vagina. Just caution, it is over time that works in the healing of the inside and the micro tears that need to form.

You can always move back a size if needed.

Lots of continued healing.

Hy there flygirl, I am a chett girl as well, at 6 weeks I was on #4 and felt I could go further so I purchased the soul source set at the 10 week mark and introduced them to my regimen. I purchased the blue and green first, than at 4 month purchased and introduced the orange, and by the 5th month it became my only dilator I have been using. Dr. Chettawut didn't want me to go bigger till 6 months but I felt I was ready and thus made the decision to do so. My Bf is bigger then the orange but I have no issue accommodating him. I am over a year post now and dilate 2 to 3 times a week with no issues, if you have any questions feel free to ask or pm and ill do my best to answer them. ;)
a little opinion of mine is I feel that Chets dilators he provides are barely adequate as most Dr's are using the soul source models or something very close to them, so truthfully buying them is just a natural choice.
