Title: Planned Parenthood
Post by: CursedFireDean on May 10, 2014, 09:41:55 AM
I'm curious, does Planned Parenthood do informed consent? Or is it different for every location that does it?

I believe it is different at every location! I know the one near where I'm at doesn't even do hormone shots. They don't even offer counseling to trans people. What they do have is info that can help you find others that can help you. I'd just give them a call and see or check their website out.

The organization has a list on its site. Scroll down and click on the link labeled "What Health Services...?" It's not a very extensive list, but it's better than nothing. http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/sexual-orientation-gender/trans-identities-39847.htm (http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/sexual-orientation-gender/trans-identities-39847.htm)

I'm getting my T with informed consent through Planned Parenthood. So far it's been a fantastic experience.

It's different depending on where you live. None of the ones in my state offer any trans services, unless you count them referring you to somewhere else as a service, which I don't, so check their website for clinics near you and see what each one offers.

They're pretty vague. They say the offer hormones for transgender patients but there's no details. I've been checking about that because a year ago this location only offered hormones for trans women but now I'm assuming both by the wording.

Each location should have clickable links for each of their services, and that gives more info. Like the ones in my state have LGBT services listed, but when you click that, it only lists education and resources.

Yeah, it's within the LGBT Services where it says hormone therapy for transgender clients. But that's ALL it says, no other details. I was hoping maybe there was a set standard of guidelines of how, for the locations that do offer hormones, they offer them. Like if they ALL used informed consent or not. Basically I was curious whether some locations need a letter from a therapist or not, because I probably won't be going back to my therapist. I know for sure that my planned parenthood offers hormones, I just don't know if I am eligible, or what I need, or anything like that. I was hoping people here would have an answer, but since everyone is saying it depends on location I need to just contact them.
