WATCH: For 8 Years, She Convinced The World She Was A Boy. Now, She's Making Us Rethink Sexuality
What if most of us aren't "gay" or "straight," but somewhere in between? Artist and activist iO Tillett Wright makes a passionate case for accepting the complexity of individuality -- without making anybody feel like a second-class citizen. If her words don't persuade you, the images she shares just might.
That was fantastic. Perfectly timed, for me, as well.
The thing is, minds caan change...you just have to make it personal. Give people a way to relate and see how genuine the struggle is. So her project really reflects that, I think. She's a smart cookiee!
The part about asking people to place themselves on a scale of 0% to 100% gay, "I watched so many existential crises unfold in front of me", is funny and very meaningful at the same time. Says a lot about how accustomed people are to boxes.
I actually watched the whole thing!! Her points are well made and I too had a giggle fit at the comment on the rating scale. I have done that in some of my discussions with people, and the panic on faces is what she should have caught, it is probably their most human moment.
