Title: Worrying study about finasteride
Post by: kira21 ♡♡♡ on May 23, 2014, 08:21:23 AM
"At the examination, post-finasteride patients reported muscular stiffness, cramps, tremors and chronic fatigue in the absence of clinical evidence of any muscular disorder or strength reduction. Although severity of the anxious/depressive symptoms was quite variable in their frequency, overall all the subjects had a fairly complex and constant neuropsychiatric pattern"

I believe the same applies to Dutatsteride.

I've taken Finasteride on and off for years and I can't report any of the symptoms that the study claims to find. Still, it is very worrying and makes me wonder whether I should continue.

The only thing I would say, though, is that being bald REALLY makes me miserable! Which is why I've taken the Finasteride, because it does keep that slap head at bay: not completely, but enough.

It doesn't really worry me. I've been on it for 25 years. Everybody is different. It appears pretty safe for me but that doesn't mean others won't have reactions, of course.

The article doesn't specifically mention Dutasteride, they are similar, but I wouldn't say what applies to one certainly applies to the other. All I know is that I haven't noticed any specific side effects of Dutasteride.

It also worries me that the article is somewhat vauge, it says "even after discontinuation of finasteride treatment." but, gives no indication of a time frame, perhaps the whole study is a bit more illuminating than the abstract, but it has me a bit on the fence seeing as this medication has been around for some time, and I don't usually hear these sorts of complaints associated with it.

Do you have access to the whole article ?

I most regretfully do not, so I cannot evaluate the methodology and statistic of the study but the abstract seems vague and the wording "fishy," like how big was the sample, how long since the individuals stopped the finasteride, why they stopped, what was the does they were taking, did they all took the same does, where all the individuals the same age? race ? where all healthy etc, etc, etc

Are you a bio student or professional biologists or a physician ?

Worth a read of the whole study, what journal published it?  But know what, the stuff works.  Vanity, thy name is Julie.  lol
