Rochester radio hosts fired after calling transgender people 'nut jobs'

Rochester rock radio station 98.9 The Buzz (WBZA) has fired its morning show hosts less than a day after suspending them for making "hateful comments" on air about transgender people.

Kimberley and Beck, hosts of "The Breakfast Buzz" on the Entercom-owned station, came under fire Wednesday after a 12-minute segment about the city of Rochester's plan to extend health coverage to employees for gender reassignment surgery.

"The services that will be paid for under the new coverage: gender reassignment surgery, psychological counseling, because you're probably a nut job to begin with," Kimberly said.

The DJs played a clip of Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like a Lady," compared gender non-conforming issues to a woman who wants a "boob job" for her mental health, and mocked a female listener who called in to complain they were being disrespectful. "Thank you, sir," they replied with a laugh.

An appropriate response. Good riddance.

It always surprises me and makes me feel a little better about humanity when there are actual repercussions for the things DJs/radio people say. Where I live, in Alabama, LGBT people are regularly insulted on the radio. It's just the "cool" thing to do, apparently.
