So in the last week 3 people have told me I look younger.
They ask me what have I done and if they could have it as well.
Been on low dose now for some time so slow and steady change which makes me so happy.
I told them that I'm getting fitter and taking vitamins which has helped me beat my awful depression as now I am so much happier.
One I told that I have found the fountain of youth. Too true.
All the above is true. E = Vitamins, not so sure but makes an easy answer without the awkward follow up questions.
I know it's not quite right, but I am not out to anyone at the moment except here and my doctors.
How do you answer the question when asked? Do you have fun with it like me?
I could tell them E but it would be funny for my mates to take it as well.
Somehow I don't think so.
Jen
Just before transitioning the comments about my youthful appearance, especially from people who didn't see me everyday was becoming fairly common. Fortunately I was able to dodge too much scrutiny, I'd just say "thanks!"...I think I did once joke about having a portrait like Dorian Gray did. ;)
If they're noticing now, it's probably only going to start registering with them more from now.
*lol* Jenny, I've had the same thing happen as well. "*name*, your face looks thinner but you're looking good.", or " ____, you look younger"
I just say I've been more careful about what I've been eating and watching my weight. People just shrug it off after that. The alternative, with females is to counter compliment and that's a good enough distraction from the topic at hand. =)
There's no way I could possibly fess up to being on E - not with my current intentions.
A thought now just occurred to me - for those on low dose, is it possible to end up at a male fail point even if you're making zero effort at changing one's presentation.
I would think so, especially if also doing electro/laser. Eventually, anyway.
One of my close staff asked why I was having laser, I hadn't told her I was, she guessed. I didn't know what to say.
In the end, seemed like hours, probably seconds, I told her I was having a sex change.
She smiled and said about time.
It was the second beginning off gaining the courage. The first was walking into the laser tech and telling her.
Each step is enormous, each step is easier.
The day I walked into work on a Monday morning wearing a skirt and blouse I had no fear. I was ready.
Jenny, each step is one foot in front of the other.
Cindy, you must have ninja staff or something - to pick up on laser and also work out you were transitioning... wow.
I've only ever had one person ever comment about my lack of beard, but there was no implication of being TG.

I first employed her when she was 18, she had progressed from a tech to running my lab, she knew about my drinking and depression. She is now my PhD student, I sort of think she knew more about my horror than even I could admit to myself.

Definitely a smart one and a keeper. =)
I hope her thesis goes well, and is actually on something interesting. Half the papers I read are as dry as parchment.
She is great, the thesis should be finished this year, some nice stuff

It's been nearly 4 years since I started low dose hrt (with various breaks totalling approx 16 months). I had my first full facial hair clearance from electro on the weekend :) and ffs designed to provide more androgynous features 3.5 years ago. Apart from a bilateral breast reduction, which I probably could have avoided, I have yet to male fail. I have been told that I am looking much younger and more androgynous but folk that I have not seen for several years have taken a while to recognise me (suspect this is more the ffs than the hrt). I think that change occurs slowly when in your 50s and you can flex dosages to achieve the desired emotional and physical outcome. With little change in grooming, weight, dress, voice or mannerism and taking care re breast development when at work I think that the chance of male fail is low so am feeling very pleased given my non binary identity.

I doubt that hormones at any dose (on their own) would be enough to male fail, it's not a magic pill y'all.
Factor in a year of hormones and full time experience and THEN try to pass as male? Yeah, good luck ;)

If you stay on low dose hrt then you are, in my experience probably correct, but as in most things ymmv. However in my case I think that there is little doubt that if I went to full hrt or transition dosages then, with the ffs and electro, if I added a few gender cues I suspect that I would be getting quite a few confused and perhaps hostile reactions from the binaries who often can't deal with ambiguous or queer presentation. Whether I could 'pass' after 12 months RLE is another issue entirely

Probably depends on breast growth, as Jenny has said she is on a low dose but her girls continue to grow apace. Would there maybe need to be tissue removal or binding if one wanted to stay on the non fail side of things?
Possibly. I needed this before the reduction. Friends said that I could have worn a compression vest but in Oz with the beach etc it could be tricky without a dark rashie and a large frame!

Back to topic. Depending upon who I am speaking with I either own the E etc or else shrug it off with a change in diet, hair dye to hide the grey hairs and good genes. I thought this would be hard to believe as I am told that I look at least 10 years younger than my peers but there hasn't been a problem to date
Aisla
nobody has mentioned it yet ,but I just say I eat a lot of spinach salad and rutabaga .
I always tell people it's diet and genetics, which is true for the most part. What I leave out is the diet contains a hefty dose of estrogen and spironolactone. Not having a bunch of facial hair like I used to helps also.
Perfect timing. Was out last night with friends and got asked for id, no one else. Was with 8 friends and the oldest of the group, I'm 33. They where like that's been happening a lot, I'm like guess taking care if my skin makes a difference. Then again so does going through puberty again, which I definitely didn't say. Then again at 3 months transition dose of e its getting close to time to be honest.
So the most common excuse to fluff your way through seems to be:
1. Diet. (Say you've been eating your veg?)
2. Actually taking care of your skin.
3. My family genetics pwn yours so too bad to be you!
Any other creative reasons?

Exactly, just tell them!
Their problem not yours!

I have friends who would belive that of me
Another suggestion is to say your happier (truth). You do generally appear younger when you are happy.

*giggles* I use that line all the time! But I have to be sure whoever I say it to is as old as I am.. saying it to a 20-30 yrs old.. it gets lost on tthem. :)
I've always had long hair and have jokingly been called a female name that's close to my male name. "little do they know haha" and would just laugh but recently when joked around like that I answer to the female name joke. They either get it or they don't and I have no idea if they do yet.
I started shaving my arms after a few months on HRT, nobody has noticed. My legs too but I wear pants every day so if they have noticed then apparently someone has some Xray vision going on.
I got my ears pierced a few months ago and only a handful of people asked me what's up. I made up a story about my niece getting her ears pierced and how scared she was so I got mine done to show her it wasn't painful. Nobody has asked me since then.
I got my hair cut with bangs and I started having my eye brows waxed to appear more feminine. Nobody has noticed the hair or eyebrows which drives me up the walls lol. I keep my hair in a pony tail at work but my bangs to pop out from time to time. I wear safety glasses but my eyebrows are very visible and I have many conversations where I'm face to face with a person 1 foot away from me. Still nobody has noticed or is willing to ask now.
I have lost 30 lbs and have been asked what I was doing. Taking better care of myself is the answer I give.
I look much better and have some really smooth skin now and people ask me what I've been doing. I tell them the same thing, I've been taking better care of myself and eating much healthier. But really it's the Spiro & Estrogen that are doing most of the work.
I look much younger than before and nobody believes me when I say I'm 30! I still get carded when I go to a bar and I never go to one and drink when I'm out authentically because I know i'll have to show my male ID. Bleh.

Just joke away with it - my favourite phrase is "Hey, I have only lost 10 kilos and let my hair out and then suddenly nobody can recognise me anymore... What's wrong with all of You people, lol?"
just to let you know your face is getting a lot more feminine

And I was about to say the same :). I do remember Your previous pics - but I would not recognise You now if I could not see Your forum nick, Steph.
